Travian seems to be a game that is as much about using search engines to figure out the nuiances as much as actual play. So I’m looking to the Dope.
I’ve been playing for about 6 months on 3 different servers us3, 4, and 6 [don’t do this yourself…I didn’t realize how long this game takes when I made this foolish mistake ]
I’ve learned a lot, but still encounter some questions that are hard to find the answers to; so I’ll lead off.
Q: My ‘main’ village is in a very hostile neighborhood – I had my first additional village completely destroyed, and my ‘main’ village ground nearly into dust twice now. The last time this happened, my palace was completely destroyed. So instead of building it back, I built a residence and sent settlers to a far a locale where my alliance has a strong presence. I intend to make this new village my new capital. The question is this, my ‘main’ village already has resource fields above level 10. I undertand that only your capital can have resource fields above level 10…so what will happen when I change the designation of capital to the new, smaller village? Will those fields be reduced to 10s? Will they be grandfathered in?
And why aren’t you playing with us on the 3x server? We are going to win this thing you know Seriously though, when a new speed server opens, we think we have a good shot at winning the whole thing. Join us then.
Dang, I was afraid of that. I’ll have to send some reinforcements home then – after three weeks of clawing my way out of the bomb crater I call a village, I’ll be back to positive wheat production later today :). But if my fields get busted back to 10s then I’ll be negative again.
I signed up for server3 before it began, and long before I saw the thread about the Dope in Travian. Next time a server opens up I’m in…provided some of these other 3 accounts have come to a conclusion!!! Managing three accounts is murder. s3 is almost to an end (I hope) I’m getting kind of tired of being a wheat delivery service :).
Oh yeah, and how different is playing on a speed server? Better or worse for someone with a RL, and likes to play in the morning and evening around work, but has a hard time getting on over the weekends?
There is an endgame, usually happens about a year after the game starts. In the mythology of the game a tribe called the Natars returns (their villages spring up in random places). The players then attack them in hopes of conquering the village and finding the building plans for a ‘wonder of the world.’ Then all hell breaks out. The players that gain these muster their alliance to send them tens of thousands of reinforcements to fend off all the other players that want to attack them and steal the plans. And winning consists of using the plans (actually I think you have to have 2 sets of plans) to build the WW and raise it in level all the way to level 100, all while fending off attacks from other players/alliances, and apparently retaliatory attacks from Natars that happen as you reach certain levels.
First person to level 100 wins, though it is recognized as a group victory because if takes 100s of people sending troops to protect the WW village, and 100s sending wheat to feed all those troops.
At least that is what I have learned about the endgame.
Here is another question related to my first. You can demolish buildings once your main building is level 10. If you demolish a building that is a pre-req for something else, what happens?
For example, you have to have an armory (I think) before you can research praetorians. So if you demolish the armory after you have done the reasearch and built praetorians, do you loose the ability to make more? Do the praetorians you’ve already built vanish?
When my palace was destroyed by catapult attacks my stonecutter didn’t vanish, though I understand it will once I change my village’s designation from capitial.
The upgrades or research do not disappear. As your capital expands you will find that upgrading fields will start to cost more and more requiring you to have several storage buildings. To get space for them you will have to tear down something else and usually the Academy and the Armoury are prime targets for that once you’ve done the upgrades.
Travian was a lot of fun but it does take a lot of time. On my last server I ended up the 3rd biggest player and had around 40 villages in the end.
How does scout vs scout work exactly? I understand the basics; you send a single scout to a village with no scouts, you can see either defenses or troops, and resources. You send a single scout to a village with a single scout, you loose the scout and gain no info. But once you start mixing in other troop types, and multipul scouts I get confused. How would these resolve.
2 scouts VS. 1 scout (no other troops)
2 scouts VS. 1 scout with other troops
feel free to expand these sceanarios to increase my understanding. As a defender, does simply having a scout along with defensive troops, give you a shot at killing all incoming scouts? Or do you need more scouts than the ‘attacker’ has sent at you?
