Tributes to the old Battlestar Galactica you'd like to see on the new B.G.

So far we’ve had:

  1. that the original “toasters” looked like the Old Series Cylons.
  2. The “Battlestar Galactica” theme is/was the Colonial anthem.
  3. We saw an Old Series model Basestar in the museum exhibit.
  4. Ambrosia is an expensive and highly prized alcoholic beverage.
  5. Richard Hatch has a recurring role in the new series.

So what nods to the original would you like to see in the new series?

None whatsoever. The original was lame beyond description.

Don’t mince words, minty. What do you really think?

Were the flying motorcycles I remember an effect of chemicals in the 70’s or adid they exist in some incarnation of BG?

Nope. They never existed. No matter what anybody says to the contrary, they never existed!!!

Okay, upon further reflection, I repent. In fact, the toy Vipers and Raiders they sold, with the little spring-launch rockets you could fire, were pretty cool. Nevermind that they had to take them off the market pretty quick due to the fact that kids were choking to death on them, the toys themselves were pretty cool.

The original show, on the other hand, had no redeeming qualities.

Give me some private email I can take tomy shrink. She says I’m in denial about something or other.

Boxey and the robot dog. What was that dog’s name?

The new series Boxey was on for a bit, and I loved his scene with Tigh. Tigh comes into the Ready Room, and is irritated by Boxey’s presence…

Tigh: “Where’s your mommy?”
Boxey: “Dead. Where’s yours?”
Tigh: “…I’m…lookin’ for Boomer.”

Anyway, I always loved that dog when I was a kid.

Galactica crew stumbles upon that stupid robot dog and blows it out an airlock for being a cylon…I would love to see it.

the only references i’d like to see are perhaps some more of the old spacecraft designs, maybe when Starbuck goes on her little photo mission, she finds the “mystery ship” is an original BaseStar with a company of original Raiders/Centurions protecting it, maybe the Galactica can pass thru a “Wolf 359” style graveyard of destroyed ships

You forgot:

  1. Pegasus has a resemblence to the original Battlestars.
  2. A number of episodes are have similar concepts to episodes from the original series. IE “Kobols Last Gleaming” and the original"Hand of God" had a trojan horse blowing up a basestar.

I’m with Minty – the old series stank on ice, the less the new series has to do with it the better I like it.

I believe the end of season one, and the beginning of season two were an homage to “Fire in Space.” Cylons attack, Adama is critically wounded, and fluctuating power outages means the doctor/medic has to perform surgery by hand, the old fashioned way.

Homage I never, ever want to see. Apollo & Starbuck playing in a pyramid tournament, wearing what appear to be diapers and bondage harnesses. Well ok, I wouldn’t mind seeing Apollo & Starbuck jumping around mostly naked, just not wearing those outfits, and not playing pyramid. Anyway, you can add pyramid, and those octagonal shaped cards to your list of nods.

Something I’d kinda like to see. Or hear, actually. A Centurion talk. Something like this: they find/capture a Centurion. They discover it could digitize speech, but these new Centurion models aren’t equipped with speakers. The hook it up to a radio or some other simple device with a speaker, and as it begins to talk we get the original Cylon voice. But only momentarily, as the Centurion adjusts its modulation, the voice morphs into a more modern electronic voice.

Well, I think it would be cool, and I really want to know what a modern Centurion would have to say, if it could. “Man, these new humanoid models are as big a pain in the ass as you humans were. Ooh, ooh, do this, do that.”

If you check out the DVDs, there are a ton of deleted Boxey scenes. And thank God they got deleted. I don’t know if it’s the character or the actor, but you just want to throttle the little moppet. The series really dodged a bullet by editing him out entirely.

Oh, and I think the dog’s name was Moffit. Really made a lot of sense that a bunch of people on the run from genocidal robots would make a robot dog as a kid’s toy…

Muffit. And it wasn’t a dog, it was a daggit.

I’m going to crawl into a hole and die of embarassment now that I remembered that. And I’m taking my daggit action figure with me.

I don’t watch the new version, but please let me know when they have a singer with two mouths.

Baltar: “Hello, Centurion”
Centurion: “Bite my shiny metal ass!”

ROFLMFAO

I heard the Centurion saying that in the 1979 Centurion voice, followed by the sound of a Centurion’s blaster going off.

And in response to the guy who said the original series had no redeeming qualities, it had SEVERAL.

Namely Athena, Serena, and Sheba. Maybe Cassiopia, too.

[Centurion]Get…the…humanoid…get…the…intruder…intruder…alert…intruder…alert[/Centurion]
Baltar runs out of the room…
Chicken…fight…like…a…robot…

Hey, speaking of things from the original series that should be brought back! I can’t be the only one who’d love to see Starbuck and Cassiopia get back together!
