"Trolling" or "Being a jerk" to Lynn Bodini

This again?

For the love of…

Look Rooves. you are not the first newb to come in here, post some trolling drivel, and then bitch about being called on it. Not by a long shot. You are not being cutting-edge, or even remotely clever or original. If the Mods or Admins say you are being a jerk, then you are being a jerk. No lawyer or interpretation of the rules is gonna help you. Give it up. If you do not like the rules, the Mods, or think that this board is too restrictive for your free-wheeiln’ ways, then LEAVE. Go Away. Hie thee to some other place. Scram.

But know that in doing so you leave behind one of the most informative locations on the web. You could learn a lot just lurking here.

And it looks like you need it.

You really have to be a consistant, overall jerk to get banned for that particular reason. You might wanna try and find some examples - almost all ‘meltdowns’ occur in the Pit.

I think your reasons for disliking ‘cat people’ and your overgeneralizations are stupid, to say the least, but they say more about you than they do about me. I don’t think you should be banned for it.

Let’s put it this way - if you start 5 or 6 threads bashing generalized groups of people who are behaving in only a mildly objectionable manner, you would probably qualify as a jerk. I don’t think you’re in that territory just yet.

As always, only MHO.

Well, if you find them so annoying, why invite them to critique you by opening a public thread?

It’s called arbitrary and capricious moderation, Rooves. Get used to it. I once made the mistake of laughing at a thread where some cat owners were getting worked up over something and got the thunder brought down on me. It seems cats are a touchy subject among some here.

Oh, now you I remember, Slacker. Well, isn’t that nice…you’ve got a friend to play with now.

Does anyone want to share some cat pictures?

Yes, it requests it. Notice I said they could email her, not that they should. They should not, for it has been requested that people not do it. But they could.

Thanks for putting yourself in harms way there slacker. Sorry for the wrath that might be unleashed upon you.

Thanks (i guess) Venoma. I took the libery of looking at your pics. You’re tolerant AND a cutie. hehe.

I’ll just ignore the negativisms. It’s beating a dead cat at this point.

I couldn’t resist. (MMMuuuusssst be stronger)

EddyTeddyFreddy, what’s up with your usage of triple-asterisks in place of inverted commas? I spent way too long sussing out what their intended meaning was. Why not use conventional punctuation, so people can focus on what you’re trying to say, without unnecessary distraction?

[/well-intended criticism]

Trolling pisses people off. Doing something after you’ve been warned not to do it is bannable. Consistently behaving like a jerk is bannable. Insults are not bannable. Calling a spade a spade (ie. your assertions are ridiculous, you have a big ego) is not bannable. Not hard.

Rooves: Perhaps it would help to undestand that “trolls” constitute a subset of “jerks.”

Or in other words, your definition of “jerk” and the administration’s are not the same. If you don’t understand their definition from reading threads, alls ya gotta do is ask. ATMB is a good place to start.

Awwwwwww.

Well, here’s I feel about your threads, Rooves:

In other words, WE ARE NOT AMUSED. Heh.

Slacker, I apologize for my earlier (uncalled-for and bitchy) comment. Especially since we live in the same town and you might drive me off the road in retaliation.
Merla, hope you don’t mind me re-posting your cat picture!! It’s beyond amazing.

So this is why the servers are always bogged down!

Crap, I’m wasting valuable bandwith right now! Damn hipocrisy.

Hi Larry! I’m sorry about the confusion with the triple asterisks; it’s newbie clumsiness. I’m still figuring out how to do stuff with the bulletin board buttons, and I have yet to master the putting quotes in boxes thing that veterans do with such enviable ease. I’d have just put stuff in quotation marks, as you suggest (and I thank you for your well-intended criticism!) but some of it was quotes of quotes and then it can get so messy, with the single inside double quotes (or vice versa if you’re from the UK).

Anyway, it was my fumbling attempt to find a way to set things off as quoted with what feeble skills I had to hand. Guess it would behoove me to go to the practice post site and play with the buttons, huh? :o Mea culpa, mea maxima culpa! Or am I now overdramatizing? :smack: (But  at least I’ve mastered smilies.)

Testing…

Oh, wow – so THAT’s how you do it! So simple, no wonder I couldn’t figure it out. (Sheepishly slinking away.)

Rooves, it’s a convention here, and if not formally in the rules perhaps it should be, that you express an opinion that you happen to hold, preferably attempting to bolster it with evidence or logic that supports it. Your opinion can be something as mundane as other drivers doing things that irritate you, or that Michael Bolton can’t sing, but it should be yours. “Trolling,” which is specifically prohibited, is posting an opinion you do not hold in an effort to get upset responses to it. It’s permissible to explicitly state a position that you do not hold, making clear that you’re attempting to explain or inquire about the views of others – I’ve several times stated the evangelical or Catholic perspective on a religious issue, making it clear it’s not mine but what I understand theirs to be, and in my current GD thread, I asked about the proper course for members of my own church who do not agree with our recent General Convention on two controversial issues.

Lynn took your thread as a classic bit of trolling. My opinion doesn’t count, but if anybody wanted to know, I’d agree with her.

No problem. And for the record, I love cats, and I check out the cat pictures too.

[hijack]

Thanks, I owe you a beer or three!

Suck up!
