However, Rooves could take a lesson or two from some of the people here with LESS seniority than him, like Blonde and ETF, on how NOT to be a jerk. Step one: don’t take criticism personally because it is generally intended to help you be a better member.

Whatever happened to the concept of saying “Sorry, won’t do it again, forgiveness please.”? Or the concept of e-mailing the Administrators (not Lynn, in this exception, due to her illness) and asking this privately? Why do people feel they have to bitch and moan and gripe and whine about how evil the SDMB is, rather than just leaving? I thought I had been warned by manny in a GQ thread a few weeks ago (it turns out, he was warning someone else, and I was in the clear…), and my response was to send an e-mail to him “unconditionally apologizing” and promising never to do whatever I did again. (which he can confirm) Why is that such a hard concept?
If you don’t like the Rules, talk to the Staff personally via e-mail about it. They are all good people, intelligent, and reasonable. Beating the drum publically does no good, especially as the SDMB is not a community where, except in extraordinary cases, the Rules are going to change as a result of public opinion.
And if the Rules don’t fit, or you feel constrained by not being able to misbehave here, then go to LiveJournal, like all the other people who can’t behave here do.
