I like Chingon as a poster, but they are heading for a warning in that thread, first with that accusation, and then arguing with the mod.

Borderline in a few cases, IIRC, but definitely has posted a lot of stupid shit. Certainly only a small, small percentage of posts actually contribute constructively to any thread.

A few times she came at me hot out of nowhere and made me think “what a jerk” but not that often, and I sometimes see her post reasonable stuff. Overall I see her as a regular poster, not a bad one. Maybe there are some extreme cases I just missed but from what I’ve seen she’s not one of those posters that I immediately want to disagree with or dismiss. (There are a number of those people on the SDMB.)

Put together a situation that you know damn well is going to bring comment on a hot button issue (race relations) and do it in a confrontational way. It sort of acts like he is looking for advice but not really, it’s a challenge or dare for the community.
For absolutely no reason at all, play coy and refuse to state why people can’t sit on the furniture. That’s obvious trolling behavior on its own.

There’s so much disingenuous bullshit in that thread where he is being blatant about his intentions. He’s tossing a grenade into the forum. I wouldn’t even be surprised that he picked IMHO on purpose rather than GD because he wanted people to be forced to restrain themselves in their responses. (I’m not sure about that but it wouldn’t shock me.)

I don’t think you’re being cynical enough. He didn’t just ask, in some open-ended or general way, whether he handled the situation well, or whether he could’ve handled it better; he asked: “Virtue Signaling? Cowardice?”
I figured his goal was a reply of “yeah; that was cowardice.” And so he specifically asks, so they can answer in those terms — but if they obligingly say that he’s a coward, then he can report them and maybe a warning ensues (and maybe a suspension or even a banning, depending on the track record of the guy who accordingly plays the requested part in a call-and-response).
