Umm, that isn’t actually an answer. The current, practically, universal position is ‘rape is bad’, so, unless you’re going to argue that rape isn’t bad what the fuck is there to debate?
You should go back to the ‘Do sexual preferences make you bigoted’ thread. I thought that one was interesting.
Same as threads debating whether theft, or murder, or any other crime is ever justified/the least bad of two options. I suspect there are situations where people might believe theft or murder are justified. For rape, probably not. @Max_S tried to contrive one and still wouldn’t endorse it himself.
There have also been threads debating eg how drunk is too drunk to consent. I think that question is pretty important to reach a consensus on, as a society. Would you ban those too?
You’re like a toddler who can’t stick to the topic. Stop asking about all these other made up scenarios, and explain what fascinates you about justifications for rape.
Or stick to the topic of this thread.
Sheeit, that’s what you’re on about? Saying that someone’s words betray a disturbing outlook (or “fundamental attitude”) has never been modded as an insult AFAIK, nor has Senorbeef treated it that way in his own writing. He’s happy to characterize folks’ attitudes in his writing in ATMB. I thought you were confusing me with Smartaleq or something, not just twisting a legitimate criticism of a deeply shitty attitude into a personal insult.
Stop raping this thread?
Is it too soon? Fuck no, it’s never too soon!
Amen! Here’s some actual (admittedly low-grade) trolling from Siam_Sam.
In the Matrix movie trailer thread, he posted:
Few things in life suck worse than the last two Matrix movies. The Holocaust springs to mind. Maybe the Khmer Rouge. But that’s it.
As I said in the thread, there’s hyperbole, and then there’s being offensive. Maybe find something other than the Holocaust to describe your dislike of a movie.
But Sam is never one for self-reflection when he can double down instead.
That was over the line, not sure if it’s too low-grade to be trolling though.
I certainly know people that will make comparisons to the holocaust just because it’s the worst thing they can think of. I wouldn’t say they do it specifically to make people mad, it may well be (in their mind) the most effective/convenient way of conveying how bad something is.
Certainly no worse or offensive than comparing a policy to Nazis, not because of similar policy, but just to point out how wrong it is.

The first mention was just a bad analogy. It becomes trolling when he purposely uses the same analogy a second time because he knows it upsets people.
I mean, she did as part of what you responded to:
As I have said, the hypothetical fails for many reasons, not the least among them is that rape can’t be justified (even for the hypothetical in question).
But why ignore a response already offered? I don’t get it.
That’s not trolling. He disagreed when you pointed out the analogy didn’t work and so continued to use it. Insensitive maybe if you are personally offended, but not trolling.
But obviously, take my opinion on what constitutes trolling with a heap of salt.

Imagine my dismay at the very thought of your disapproval. Lawsy me, just imagine it!
Y’know, for people who frantically insist that all subjects with all approaches thereto be given free rein because intellectual! y’all have a real hard time handling it when someone fights back using their own preferred vernacular. Don’t like how I express myself? Tough titties. If something makes me gag and have flashbacks I’m pretty likely to come out of it swinging. You know that fight/flight/freeze thing? Yeah, I fuck things up when I get upset. And again, if you don’t want that in your face you’d best not toss the gagalicious topic out there because you will ALWAYS get that response. And not just from me, although I willingly concede I’m on the far end of the mean spectrum when it comes to people who want to “discuss” whether or not raping people is just aces, regardless of the stupid hypothetical they use.
As for my specifically using “personal insults,” where’s the mod note? Uh huh. No, you just didn’t like how I expressed myself but I did keep it inside the rules. So, y’know, fuck off. With a briskness.
For what it’s worth, I never had a problem with how you express yourself.

Welcome to a very exclusive club, lol.
There are a number of topics that are beyond the pale which I would not even consider to be intellectually curious, let alone hypothesis worthy. Rape is certainly in the top three of such a list. The fact that others may find them offensive as well is very much a part of why people should think twice (and thrice) about starting topics about highly charged issues. I guess where we may be in disagreement is how much priority those considerations (of causing offense) ought to be given. Is, “That’s offensive to me!”, sufficient grounds to limit such topics if it’s offensive to a sufficient number of people? I don’t agree that it is. But I will continue to consider and weigh the opinion that many people think that it should suffice.
He obviously took it as an insult (or horrible accusation), since he said he wasn’t going to reply any more. I certainly would expect that to get modded if it wasn’t in ATMB. Why on earth did you phrase it in such a personal way if you hoped he’d rethink?
Yeah, this is where you still seem to be learning how normal human interactions work. If you do something insensitive that upsets people, and knowing that, you continue to do it even when it is isn’t necessary and there are many viable alternatives, the most likely explanation is that you are doing it to piss people off. Or I should say, that’s how normal people operate, and I have no doubt that Sam’s intention was to be annoying.
After being warned once, IMO, the most likely explanation is that you don’t care what they think. Not that you’re getting pleasure from causing offense, just that the blockhead couldn’t care less.

He sure did, and that sure let him not confront how grossly dismissive he was being about the concerns of rape survivors, just like the character in the book took an accusation of leporiphobia and turned it into a personal insult so he wouldn’t have to confront the accusation of leporiphobia, just like you take accusations of transphobia and turn them into the actions of misogynists so you don’t have to confront your own transphobia.
Like, this isn’t actually a novel or hard-to-understand tactic of people being shitty. You don’t actually need to explain it. His being all “HOW DARE YOU SIR” was frontin, and it sure looks like he successfully avoided any sort of introspection by using this tactic.
I will take back one thing I said about him in that thread. I believe I was wrong to tell him, “You’re a good poster.” That may once have been true, and some day it may be true again, but boy howdy did he ever make me a liar.
