I thought the issue was the callback to the original thread, from a thread that has the word “troll” in the title. In other words, effectively calling the poster a troll in the original thread.
Not calling them to this thread was only ever secondary, I think, and only generally undesirable not a rule violation.

Plus which, there really isn’t any way to prevent a troll from reading this thread. And it really isn’t practical to talk about whether somebody’s trolling without making it clear who’s being talked about, whether or not the name’s used. So while it’s possible to avoid having Discourse refer directly to this thread in the thread being discussed, preventing a person being discussed from finding out about it isn’t possible.
A final point - if they really are a trock, they would likely know about this thread. Several of the Trockily Departed have come here to make a defense of themselves, without being @'d. So the fact that they aren’t, while not proof by any means, would argue they are just coming to preach their particular beliefs on the subject.
Not that I agree with them or anything… For all truth is obviously received from the negligent but noodlely appendages of the flying spaghetti monster, though it must be filtered through the colander of disbelief and eyed for possible booze-inspired exaggeration.
Anyone that runs to the Trolls R Us thread to defend themselves is a trock. Anyone who doesn’t… is a well-disciplined trock.

They’re clearly a spammer. Almost every post they’ve made is promoting that band. All but the very last one. (Where they’re talking about playing Age of Empires, and no mention of the band at all.)
I’m kind of surprised they’ve been around for 4 years now without any mod action. I guess they’re not really doing anything harmful; no links to concert promotions or merchandise. Just showing videos for a band over and over again.

First troll in my thread! It’s kind of an honor. Well, not really, unless it falls into the category of FIFA Peace Prize-type honors. Still, it’s an occasion, hearing that faint but ever-approaching whistling sound of the banhammer swinging. It’s weird though, I would have thought a Trump fan would wander in to defend their king and instead it’s a Jesus fan. The “Jesus is Dying” thread was closed like 2000 years ago!
