Watched the posts being cornfielded in front of my eyes. apparently they stay when they are moved until you refresh. huh.
Looked like a clear case of suicide by Mod to me, but also qualified as more trouble than worth.
Well, new user Chatterbox has popped in to call the DSA “crazy” and tell us that all criticism of Israel is just because of tEh AnTiSEmitiSm. May his stay here be brief.
Good find. This guy might even last centi-Scaramuccis. Might.
Here’s an obfuscated search for the offendingsive individual’s contributions so we can all play along at home: Search results - SDMB.
No they’re gone as a follow-up to a pair of flags.
Oh well …
At least I learned how to create a search for a user’s posts that won’t be found by almost any vanity search. I’m sure that’ll be useful again soon enough.
Alas, not even 3 centi-Scaramuccis
Taking a scaramucci to be 10 days (sources vary on the exact duration), a centi- would be 2.4 hours = 144 minutes. And a milli- would be 14.4 minutes.
It’s almost a shame the mods bury their kills so thoroughly. It’d be fun to track and memorialize how long various problem children don’t last. But all the needed evidence is gone.
I always get slightly and very irrationally annoyed when somebody crows about a truly batshit post and I go to read it and it has been disappeared. I wanted to read the batshittery! How dare the mods spoil my browsing enjoyment by enforcing their sensible rules!
The whole point is that they don’t want such things to be memorialized. It’s the exact same reason why many times people who disrupt public events (like streakers in sports) aren’t given air time. If you deny the visibility, you remove the incentive to do it. Who wants to go through the trouble of making a spectacle of themselves, and end up with the legal consequences, if you can’t even enjoy the infamy from doing it?
(Yet, despite understanding and even supporting the reasons for such a policy, just like you I’m a little disappointed that I can’t be a “train wreck observer”; I think that’s only human.)
Oh, man, my brilliant and insightful post was taken away because it related to the troll’s post. It was probably my best post ever, possibly the best post on this board ever, and now it’s gone. I really pity the rest of you, having missed it.
Ya know, now that I can go back and read such threads - I’m reminded of a post in this thread (or rather, the prior one) from long ago. The cornfield is rarely fun, it’s just full of damp, moldy socks and self-immolating trolls. Very, very rarely are any of them interesting posts, more pathetic and screechy street corner preachers.
Of course, I do agree with @RitterSport that some of the smackdowns and comebacks from the posters are quite nice, but more than a few go over the line themselves…
Ya’ll aren’t missing much, and the world is more peaceful and quiet…
“And in the silence that followed, the only sound that could be heard was a solitary giggle, from… ParallelLines Oliver Cromwell, Lord Protector of England!” ![]()
It’s like that off-limits room that’s always locked, and so mysterious. Everyone wants to know what’s in there. Whatever it is, it must be amazing!
Turns out, that’s just where the custodial staff keep their cleaning supplies.
Very much so. The image of that elementary school janitor’s mop-bucket full of the darkest, murkiest water that hadn’t been changed since who-knows-when comes to mind.
The Footwear Fire Swamp, then.
I got in there before they made the kill. Didn’t make it 8 hours, so just about 3 centi-Scaramuccis or possibly a little less
I saw it all too. But didn’t form a coherent notion of the timing of their posts. Thanks for filling in that crucial detail.
One of my proudest moments as a Doper was when, by popular demand, a mod (IIRC @Aspenglow) retrieved my choke-slam of some psycho-troll from the cornfield & reposted the relevant part out in public for posterity.
I’m about out of battery but I’ll try to hunt it up later. Easily 10 years ago.
10 years ago, most of us weren’t Mods yet.
So either more recent or a different Mod.
