We’re going to get a bit more than I had bargained for. Worrying about Mom and Grandma, in their house on the river.
We’ve been up since about 3:30 this morning, because the dogs were restless. The local news had some poor kid who had probably never been on camera before, standing out in the darkness, trying to give updates on the storm which hadn’t affected the area at all yet. He kept giving us jewels such as, “It’s definitely really dark out here…no light at all at this time…”, and he kept working in what must be his catchphrase, “not gonna lie to you”. “Not gonna lie to you, expecting some rain soon…”, etc. And they kept coming back to him for updates every few minutes. We got a laugh out of it anyway.
Ya know, for someone who labels himself “semi-retired”, you’re a pretty busy guy! ![]()
Hoping that wind and storm surge damage for those in the path of the tropical storm/hurricane won’t be too bad.
Looking forward here (in Kentucky) to some decent rain to alleviate our severe drought.

It’s sorta feast or famine down at the saltmine. Had 6 days off at the start of the month then worked/working 6 straight through Sat upcoming. a Couple off after that then we shall see.
Funny but as I approach real permanent complete retirement next summer my “semi-retired” moniker is definitely less true than it was 2 or 4 years ago. Post- COVID we’re a little short-staffed and they pay stupid money for overtime to cover the gaps. So now I’m often selling my soul for a few extra shekels. A common human failing I’m told.
As to Nicole, we launched out of MIA this morning straight up the spine of FL and passed through the very eye of Nicole or her remnants at about 0930 on Thu. Some rain down low, some turbulence up high, but nothing very exciting.
Oh Nicole, fickle Nicole, whence cometh thy sting?
Bit of irony: The building housing the Beach Safety Office in Daytona Beach Shores collapsed due to … the beach eroding away from under it.
