Welcome to the Straight Dope. Mischaracterization and all manner of nonsense are rife at this message board - which nonetheless has higher standards than the bulk of the internet. Unfortunate, I know.
Running to the mods won’t work, because frankly this is something that’s tough to moderate. The bulk of what the mods do here IMO is swat spammers and warn people who can’t keep direct personal insults out of the pit. (They do more than that of course, and frankly I think they do a fine job).
This isn’t a seminar. This isn’t even a town hall. It’s more like the public square or a wild west town with cops that periodically grab unruly pedestrians and throw them into the saloon. Oddly enough that improves matters. GQ and Comments on the Column have somewhat higher standards than IMHO, MPSIMS, CS and GD, but these things are relative.
Furthermore little if anything gets settled here. The most that happens is that the main arguments on a given topic get lined up and laid out. Again though, that’s superior to 95% of the internet.
The challenge for the responsible and hardened poster is to fight ignorance under harsh battlefield circumstances. You may find that while studied logic and laboriously compiled facts have their place, so do occasional thwaps with the cluestick. Just be sure to limit the direct insults to the BBQ pit.
Y’all are missing the fun in this thread. Tequilla is pitting Troppus for twisting everything she says. And, in this very thread, Troppus has completely twisted what Tequilla has said, arguing against a point Tequilla didn’t even make. And she doesn’t even seem to be aware of it.
Troppus, it’s okay to admit that you have a reading problem. We have plenty of elementary school teachers here who can help you learn.

But here’s the great thing about a message board like this. Everyone’s words are on record. If another poster intentionally makes up things about your posts, everyone who reads the thread will see it. They can read your actual posts right alongside the other poster’s allegations.
So don’t worry so much about this. If you feel anyone is lying about you, you can be content in knowing their lies are obvious to everyone.
