No, his will was invalid because he was already dead when he had it drawn up and executed. His earlier visit to the lawyer explained all that. He went through all the possible angles to get around it; possibly adopting Jessica, nope it will take too long but for ten million dollars they might be able to move him to the head of the line, blah blah. The end result was that Louisiana was cashing in on all those vampire assets and the government wasn’t exactly motivated to change all that.
New Blood is like insulin for diabetes. It doesn’t cure anything, but it manages the condition effectively if you continue to take it forever.
By contrast, Sara’s blood is a flat-out cure, not only curing any hep v you might have, but also making you immune to it going forward.
The yakuza guy made a point to say they were able to synthesize Sara’s blood immediately, but would need a year to doctor it in such a way that New Blood would be just a treatment (ala insulin) instead of an outright cure, since any drug pusher / pharmaceutical company knows you make your real money on the comeback.
Which is just flat-out stupid. New Blood is vampire FOOD. There is no bigger “comeback” purchase than fucking FOOD. If they made it a true cure instead of a treatment, then vampires would only need it once…unless they ever again got HUNGRY. So stupid.
From what Mr. Gus explained, New Blood needs to be consumed on a regular basis but Sarah Newlin was a one-off cure. Plus I suppose there is the thrill factor of feeding off such a high profile anti-vamp fanatic.
When they synthesized New Blood, they made it so it wasn’t a permanent cure but an ongoing treatment, so they could make more money. I assume Eric and Pam stuck with that strategy, and that’s why they can sell Sarah’s blood for so much – it’s an actual cure.
I agree with most people: this season sucked and the finale was awful.
I was waiting for that too. Or that she would be able to save him with a zap and they would be together.
Thanks, I must have dozed off back when it was explained.
Who were the heavy older couple at Thanksgiving? Have they been seen before? (I’ve missed a good many episodes.) The actor looked like Gailard Sartain, but his last credit is several years old.
Nice cameo for Charlaine Harris.
Once they had the cure (and were immunized), then they could just go back to feeding off any human). Also, once all the vampires were cured someone else would, no doubt, start making True Blood again (by another name, I’m sure). Both of these scenarios would result in Vampires not needing New Blood anymore. As long as they still require it, and only it, whoever owns it will be rolling in money.
So, like they said, the money is in the maintenance of the disease, not the cure.
I’ll have to go look (I’m looking at the scene), but is it Jessica’s parents?
ETA, probably not. Not unless they put on a lot of weight in 8 years (and used different actors).
Unless it’s someone I just don’t remember (like someone from Andy’s family), maybe it’s Sookie’s in-laws.
Pretty sure the woman was “Jane Bodehouse” who was a Bon Temps resident who showed up in a lot of the scenes with townsfolk in them–especially some of the wild party scenes. She was usually drunk.
It was.
Wasn’t she a schoolteacher who was one of the crazed townspeople (or maybe she was a crazed vamp) while Arlene & Co were being held in Fangtasia’s basement for food? I think she sympathized & helped them escape if I’m not mistaken.
Here’s my head-scratcher:
In one of the first episodes, Sookie saves Bill when she stops him from drinking from the bald vamp’s plaything. She yells at Bill that plaything is Hep-V positive, though she has no clue what that means. Yet when Hep-V surfaces in the vamp community, it’s like they never heard of it. What gives?
The only aspect of this show that now holds any interest for me are the episodes in which we see the Jessica character (played by Deborah Ann Wohl).
I just love watching Ms. Wohl and I consider her to be one of the most beautiful women I’ve ever seen.
There was one memorable episode in which she was dressed in her underwear and it was just mesmerizing. But, now that the show has finished its run, I have deleted all of the episodes except for that one which I will enjoy forever more.
I understand that different folks may well enjoy different aspects of this show or any other show. But for me, it will always be about Deborah Ann.
No, that was a different character.
She was the other prisoner, the one that said at the party that she was going to straighten up her act…tomorrow.
^^This same post, except substitute “Alexander Skarsgaard” for “Deborah Ann Wohl.”
No, the first season was referring to Hep D, not Hep V. Hep V was created specifically to kill vampires. Hep D was a (fictional) strain of hepatitis that is the only blood-borne disease that vamps could pick up from humans.
Plus she’s hot. If I was a rich vampire, I’d totally pay big bucks to bite her.
(Just speculation) Hep V is the weaponized form of Hep D?
