Truly mundane question about cosmetics

I am make-up impaired, due to growing up in a household where chap-stick was considered high maintenance girly stuff. At my advanced age, I am finding the need for some color here, some concealer there, in order to not scare small children in public. I do not know if I am “cool” or “warm” in skin tone. I tan easily and dark (not golden), I am medium blond, and I wear a lot of blues, greens and purples (not saying they compliment me, just that I gravitate toward them). I have found the most exquisite coral cream blush, it it light and natural looking. I used to wear a pinkish blush, but my skin can look red when I have a hot flash so I thought I’d try the coral. So my question (finally) is - what color lipstick will go with coral? I honestly can’t find any coral lipstick. There seems to be pink, peach and red. Am I missing something here? Would coral lipstick just be too pale to even show up on my lips? If anyone reads this and doesn’t think I’m an idiot, I’d appreciate your input. If you have a brand name, that would be helpful, along with a name or number of the shade. I am going for sheer and minimal here, and I really don’t want my lips to POP with color. Gawd, this is embarrassing. Just shoot me now…

I’m rather make-up impaired, too, but wouldn’t peach be pretty much the same as coral?

Not a helpful answer, but I vote that you aren’t an idiot. But I’ve never looked for coral lipstick so I don’t know what colors there might be. My lipstick related peeve is that so many lipsticks are SOOOO shiny. I just want something that adds a little color to my lips, I don’t need them to look glossy and wet and plump. (Though my sis-in-law would point out that some of that is because I naturally have plump lips–she doesn’t).

Probably not the answer you’re looking for, but lately I’ve been a big fan of Blistex Silk & Shine. I don’t have time to make sure lipstick is constantly on properly, and this just highlights the natural color of your lips. Because of it, I don’t think I’ve worn lipstick in over a year.

In addition to the excellent Blistex suggestions, may I also suggest Cherry Chapstick? Adds just a smidge of color that looks pretty natural while keeping the lips moist and kissable

Apply the coral cream blush to your lips and then apply some clear gloss. Instant matching lipstick.

If that’s not an option, you might try putting on some orangish red lipstick followed by a sheer pink. Experiment until you get the coral color.

Key components of my lipstick arsenal are a good neutral bronze and a good neutral nude. This enables me to take a chance on almost any other color I see in the store. For example, in a fey mood I bought a tube of hot pink lipstick. By itself, it looks terrible. If I apply a coat of bronze over it, it turns into a lovely bronze pink that looks nice on me. Lipsticks that are too dark on their own can be lightened up with the nude. And, of course, they can each be worn by themselves, too. Apply the 1st coat, blot, apply the 2nd coat, blot, you’re done. It sounds like it would be gloopy but if you use a light touch it’s really not; I get more gloopiness from chapstick.

If that’s more involved than you want to get, a lot of folks swear by Burt’s Bees lip shimmer. I haven’t tried them myself, but I’m going to as soon as I can get motivated to wander over to the only store in town that stocks their stuff.

When you are at the cosmetics counter, try some of the sample lipstick colors on the back of your hand right above your thumb. Remember that when you apply it to your lips, you can always blot it off until there is just barely a suggestion of color left.

My granddaughter took me to the Lancome counter in a department store and they determined that I am a “warm” and suggested what colors would look good on me. (I had had a pretty good idea, but it was fun to have it confirmed.) You might tell them you are looking for the right coral to go with your skin tone.
