I’m going to do the same thing I did with the last debate which is to give my unfiltered opinion before reading the thread.
First, I know I am biased so I don’t know how other people will feel. There were no opening statements. I wanted Harris to introduce herself. Instead she jumped right into a pressured description of her economic policies. However, Trump did the same thing in his first answer. It was like they felt that they had to say everything immediately.
That said, she did everything I hoped for. She spoke directly to the public and had three specific economic policies that she came back to several times. She didn’t lose her cool. She was strong and presidential but also has moments of warmth and caring. She smiled, but didn’t mock Trump directly. At the same time she managed to bait Trump with issues she knew would set him off such as people leaving his rallies early.
I think she missed some opportunities to correct him such as when he touted Orban as a leader who supported him but I liked how she pushed back on his plans to end the war in Ukraine and I do really appreciate the fact that she repeatedly turned back to what she would do for the country
Trump was trump. He got in his usual attacks. His supporters will eat it up and say that he destroyed her on her flip flopping and on the border. He is not going to lose any diehard supporters.
Finally, the moderators were great with the real-time fact checking. They kept it to just the most egregious lies but it helped.
Overall, I would say Harris won but Trump did not implode as thoroughly as I had hoped.
