One of the things that disgusts me most about this White House is the fucking First Whore herself.
Her address to the nation during the GOP convention was just wrong on so many levels. To have someone who sounds like a Kremlin propagandist using the White House - the same White House that was once occupied by iconic families like the Roosevelts, the Kennedys, the Eisenhowers, and the Regans - to address the nation about anything, much less to use it as a political prop, was just sickening.
It was surreal waking up to this news on my alarm clock radio this morning. My first thought was that it was a dream. A good dream. But now I’m convinced this is a nightmare. I can’t see a good outcome coimng from it.
Scenario 1: The Trumps make it out unscathed. This will confirm to his base that COVID is a nothingburger. And of course Trump will beat this drum incessantly at the expense of the American public.
Scenario 2: The president experiences a prolonged illness that takes him out of the campaign, but it isn’t enough to kill him. He’ll garner major sympathy points that won’t translate into detractive worry points as long as he still manages to appear strong from the sick bed. If he’s still firing off late-night tweets, taking photos of himself eating KFC in bed, and still calling into Fox and Friends…people might see him as valiant fighter rather than a lost cause. Also, if others are campaigning for him, that means he has fewer opportunities to generate negative media. He will have a ready-made excuse to be lazy: “My doctor says I have to stay in bed, folks. I’d love to do the debate, but it is what it is…”
Scenario 3: Trump becomes severely ill or dies. Now he’s a martyr of the China Flu. He becomes a symbol who is now beyond reproach in the way that always seem to happen for the newly dead. Biden won’t be able to say a single bad thing about Trump or his administration without being accused of being “political” or speaking ill about the dead. Meanwhile Pence et al.will be able to eulogize him on every talk show, campaign rally, and press conference. The Dems will be silenced every time they try to talk about the election. “This is not the time,” they will be told. “This is a time for unity, not diviseness.” The conspiracy nuts will have a field day blaming the Dems for Trump’s demise. “This was the plan all along!” they will say. There will be calls to stop the election so that the Republicans can regroup.
As much as it pains me to say it, Scenario 1 is what I hope for the most. The Trumps might come out of this unscathed and the obnoxiousness from their side will be kicked up by a million. But it seems like obnoxiousness is inevitable. I’d rather deal with that than listen to Trump be beautified on an endless loop.

About 30 years ago, they switched from 24/7 airborne alert to either ready ground or airborne alert.
My guess is that with this, they’re probably just flying around doing what they’d normally be doing, but intentionally within sight of air traffic radars and with their transponders on, so that Twitter lights up and points out that they’re on the job to anyone who might be watching.
So nothing actually out of the ordinary, but an overt signal that they’re not looking the other way or laying down on the job.

There’s also 2A, which is that he gets sick enough to where it impairs his campaigning, but not sick enough to kill him or cause him any kind of permanent impairment. Or even eliminate his campaigning, just slow his responses and muddle things.
I mean, it might be really nice right about now to get 2-3 weeks of confused messaging and or slow responses, in order for Biden to hammer home his message, without making Trump a martyr or letting him keep going as-is.
That would be my hope- he gets sick enough that it negatively affects his campaign, but not so much that we have to deal with the chaos of having him die prior to the election or claiming that he was kicked while he was down with COVID-19.
That’s actually what bothers me- he’s going to claim that he gets a second chance because he was sick or some other dumb-ass bullshit like that.
Maybe they’ll ship him off to Slovenia to live with grandparents or something if we’re lucky.
monstro’s points are well taken, but I disagree. I will take a slight chance on a President Pence if it comes with a guarantee of no second term for Donald.
I understand Donnie is now showing mild symptoms. He should be concerned, you can go from mild symptoms to a ventilator to a coffin in a pretty short time.
Though it is unseemly and morbid, I’ll speculate on what happens if he goes to that great development in the sky. The obvious scenario is that the RNC puts Pence in the #1 spot and who knows who (Haley?) in at #2. But I think Donnie Junior will make a play for replacing his dad. He’ll say with tears running down his cheek “It was…his…dying wish…that I take his place.” And since the ballots essentially have been printed with his name on it, it makes logistical sense.
Our dogs woke me up a few minutes before my phone. I took them out, looking at my phone, and my jaw dropped. Then I woke up my gf and she refused to believe me until I showed her my phone, which led to her jumping out of bed and grabbing her phone.

I agree that there would be a sweet spot in the Trump illness spectrum that would be beneficial to Biden. If Trump is too sick to do virtual campaigning and call-ins to Fox and Friends but not sick enough for anyone to write him off as dead in the water, then it might not be so bad.
