“I hate the fucking Eagles.”-Jeff Lebowski
They could still do it, just have someone else in the White House. Like Rick James.
I can see this turning into a political debate. Moved from The Game Room to Great Debates.

I merged the topic from Game Room > great debates into the existing thread in Elections.

You get banned and get a notation on your file with the US security apparatus, they aren’t easy to rescind, as anyone who shares a name with a recidivist would know.
They aren’t allowed to go to the White House because they don’t have an invitation. Would suspect WH security wouldn’t be best pleased about anybody just rolling up to the door and wanting an audience with POTUS.
On the other hand, were there to be some dialogue and whatever bones of contention were resolved (regardless of how likely that would be) then the invitation could be reissued and there’d be a nice photo-op in the rose garden or summat with all parties appearing as best buddies and beaming for the cameras.
Were that to happen the Eagles would find themselves being grilled by the press corps over their about-face and wish they hadn’t.
So what has happened is probably for the best for both parties.
Okay, if the “event” is somehow the issue, then what’s the difference between being told you’re banned from an event and being told you’re not being allowed to go to an event?
You have a cite for any of that?
For that matter, do you have a cite that this hasn’t happened for the members of the team?
I don’t have an invitation to the White House either. But the President didn’t issue a public statement saying I wasn’t allowed to go after having previously invited me.
That’s the difference between just not being invited and being banned.
Yellow, balding, loser-looking hair is now a part of our SB Champions’ first day in 2018 season. (I hope)
Orange skin is optional. DON’T USE THE LOTION, FOLES!
GO Eagles! !
I for one found the “banned” usage fine. Sure, if it just said “Trump Bans Eagles from White House,” I would have assumed something different. And I could see using “cancelled” if the event was canceled. But it appears the event will continue, but the Eagles have been told they can’t attend.
I actually think the article is misleading by using “cancelled.” If they didn’t want to use “banned,” then another choice would be “uninvited.” But the implication with “cancelled” is that there will be no event, when there is one. Trump just renamed it.
Fan of the losing team?
I don’t know that he cares about the teams, but he is evidently a friend of the owner of the losing team.
Being not invited to a party is nothing like being banned.
Banned means there is a law saying you’re not allowed in, and if you showed up it would be a crime. Not invited means… not invited. It is a huge difference.
An opportunity for a historic occasion has been missed.
This was going to be the first year in the history of the White House Super Bowl event that every member of the football team was smarter than the president.
So, what’s the event, then? The event was going to be “President hosts winning sports team”. Now, the winning sports team isn’t involved. So what’s left of the event?
The other invitees are going to come and…listen to the national anthem or something? And “other wonderful music celebrating our Country”.
They repurposed it into “A Celebration of America.”
The president’s statement said that the ceremony will be “one that will honor our great country, pay tribute to the heroes who fight to protect it, and loudly and proudly play the National Anthem.”
Trump specifically cites those things as something the NFL team would be required to do:
he statement says that the defending Super Bowl champions disagree “with their President because he insists that they proudly stand for the National Anthem, hand on heart, in honor of the great men and women of our military and the people of our country.”
Plus, well, it’s run by the same people in the same place at the same time. Likely the same guests (minus the Eagles) will be there, since they would already be planning on coming. I think it is fairly described as the same event.
“President has sad little party”
[Obscure reference] One half-expects him to insist that everyone listen to Demis Roussos. [/obscure reference]
This is silliness.
As it would have been true had the pee-wee champions of any state been invited.
I’m sure the Eagles are broken hearted. This might be as good a time as any to put an end to sports champions visiting the White House and hopefully the congratulatory locker room calls as well.
From Twitter – “He should just invite the Patriots and say they won.”
