Being not invited to a party is nothing like being banned.

Banned means there is a law saying you’re not allowed in, and if you showed up it would be a crime. Not invited means… not invited. It is a huge difference.

So I can’t ban my ex-wife from coming into my house, and this board can’t ban spammers?

the locker room calls stopped decades ago , they were replaced by the white house visits. News reports say less than 10 players were going to show up. I would guess a lot of coaches were going to skip it too.

Trump specifically cites those things as something the NFL team would be required to do:

he statement says that the defending Super Bowl champions disagree “with their President because he insists that they proudly stand for the National Anthem, hand on heart, in honor of the great men and women of our military and the people of our country.”

I heard their only player who didn’t stand was cut from the team before the season began.

He said the team wanted to send a smaller delegation Tuesday, but “the 1,000 fans planning to attend the event deserve better.”

None of the Eagles took a knee during the anthem in 2017.

Apparently only about half the team planned on going to the White House anyway. But here’s the money quote (helpfully bolded):

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney replied with his own statement, saying that he is “equally proud of the Eagles’ activism off the field” and that the players “represent the diversity of our nation — a nation in which we are free to express our opinions.”

"Disinviting them from the White House only proves that our President is not a true patriot, but a fragile egomaniac obsessed with crowd size and afraid of the embarrassment of throwing a party to which no one wants to attend,” Kenney said.

I think the real issue is that Trump is mad because the players are smarter than he is:

Last week, Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins said he would not attend the ceremony because he didn’t want to be part of a photo op and wanted “to avoid being used as any kind of pawn.”

From the cite, some players and the owner had accepted the invitation and others, including most if not all of the Black players, had sent their regrets. Those statements of not interested in attending have been public knowledge for a while now, but Trump thought best to wait until the last minute to cancel it for those of the team who wanted to be there, and to not tell them other than by a general announcement.

So some of the team was already pissed at Trump, and decided not to go. The rest of the team, those players and staff not already pissed at him and presumably looking forward to the WH visit, was disinvited at the last minute by general announcement?

Last I heard, they are going to go ahead anyway. I kinda hope they broadcast it live, be kinda like watching paint dry, except it would be watching paint dry with patriotic fervor. Boy oh boy, the pulse fairly pounds! Military bands playing patriotic medleys! Huzzah! Military music, the musical equivalent to military intelligence!
