Nonsense. No state can make abortion illegal because of federal action by the SCOTUS. There are lots of things that states can do to chip around the margins, but there is no way to stop abortions in the US at the state level.
Even getting rid of Roe would not stop most abortions in the US, as most states would still allow it. We’d need a new SCOTUS ruling giving “personhood” status to fertilized human ova followed by law making abortion illegal, or a constitutional amendment to outlaw abortion.
This is why I honestly think that Trump’s ego got him into this, and I honestly don’t think he expected to become the nominee. Not that he wanted to dally into politics just to increase his brand (although I’ve no doubt that’s part of it), but it’s like the Four Yorkshiremen sketch, and someone says “Prove it!” when the claim about living in a hole with a piece of twig comes up.
and there’s a point there. It’s obvious (as another poster said) Trump’s out of his depth. But there is the possibility, however slim, that he began all this simply as an attention whore, and the game got away from him, and now he’s in too deep to quit.
I maintain that for better or worse, the GOP got exactly what they wanted all these years: someone from the outside, who won’t pander to special interests, who’ll stand up for “them” (i.e., disaffected white middle-aged, middle class voters), and stand up against “them” (i.e., minorities who come in and take our best jobs).
This is a classic example of being careful of what you wish for.
Trompe l’oeil (French: “fools the eye”) is a style of painting that plays with perspective to make the viewer think they are seeing a real object rather than a painted image.
Trump does not want to be president, and doesn’t plan on actually doing much if he wins. That’s why he was offering the “most powerful vicepresidency in history”. He DOES want to win though, because in his mind winning is everything. He doesn’t want the job, but he sure as hell isn’t going to try to purposely lose.
If by “objective evidence” you mean someone who purportedly heard Trump say he didn’t actually want to be president, no. I’ve just always been suspicious that he does, and his behavior is much more understandable if we assume he doesn’t.
He may want to win the presidency, but that doesn’t mean he wants to be president. That is, do the actual job as opposed to claiming the title. He’s the proverbial dog chasing the car.
Trump’s spokesidiot Katrina Pierson, who previously said that Obama/Clinton policies led to Captain Khan’s death in 2004 also wants you to know that we weren’t in Afghanistan until Obama invaded it.
Sez Trump on Twitter: “I love watching these poor, pathetic people (pundits) on television working so hard and so seriously to try and figure me out. They can’t!”
He wants to be elected president, and he’s proud that he can’t be “figured out”.
Jesus, I hope this asshole loses by the greatest margin in history.
Re: the whole “sarcasm” thing - it v reminds me of a child i know. He went through a period of time where he would lie balls faced to you amd when called on it, say something like "I was being SARCASTIC! "
i would ask a question, like is your seatbelt buckled? He would say yes. I would look and nope, not buckled. Or I’d ask him if he had brushed his teeth - same thing. Or if he gotten a snack.
He grew out of this confusion between sarcasm amd lying; It’s rather too late for Trump.
