While there are a near-infinite number of ways this loan could be structured, typically a small business loan would be for 3-7 years and have a relatively high interest rate (5-15%, or the legal maximum (if there is one)). Running the numbers, a $10,000,000, 7-year loan @ 6% (compounded monthly) requires a monthly payment of $146,085.
If your firm does $2m/mth in gross revenues, your profit margin after COGS and SG&A and Other Financing Activities to support this debt (which you called… what was it… ‘not that much’) must be 7.15%.
Unfortunately, I let my subscription to Bizminer.com lapse so I can’t look up the profit margin expectations of a tool&die business in the $25/million of sales range, but some quick googling tells me your industry averages about 13% margins… which your firm was likely not making, given that… reading between the lines using the numbers you provided… it struggled, needing debt to sustain it, until the owners, tired of throwing everything they have into it and seeing eight-figures of debt attached to their name, decided to sell out.
