Fun fact: Jet Airliner is a cover!
Never heard of it. AFIAK, Steve Miller only had that one hit (The Joker), plus Fly Like An Eagle.
And Space Cowboy, Abracadabra, Take the Money and Run, Rockin’ Me, Jungle Love, Swingtown…
Yeah; he had nine top 40 hits (five in the top 10), and was a pretty big star there for a time in the 1970s.
I was surprised to learn that in the four years they were active Creedence Clearwater Revival had four songs that charted to No. 2 on the US charts… and none at No. 1
The music industry is weird.
Literally learned guitar from Les Paul. Yes, that Les Paul.
Indeed. Miller’s father and Les were good friends, and Les was Steve’s godfather.
I saw him on a triple bill with Journey and Tower Of Power a decade or so ago. He played a little over an hour and there were maybe two or three songs I hadn’t heard on classic rock radio.
Always disappointing to wake up and see 11 new posts in this thread… and they’re about music!
Someone needs to decide what gets played during his funeral. I suggest that the powers that oversee this happy event have a look over this list of suggestions:
You’ll likely hear the fireworks before reaching the site..
Trump may not be literally dead, but it certainly sounds like he died onstage last night:

This line is kinda funny:
“See those beautiful chandeliers? I can tell you everything about them,” he threatened.
These kinds of articles always remind me of something Seth Meyers said years ago, the president isn’t supposed to be in the news every single day.
Although part of the reason Biden is often regarded as a do-nothing president was exactly how much he wasn’t in the news every day. IOW, his presidency’s media presence reflected the old pre-trump norms. Not the new trumply precedent. And that was seen as inadequate. And not only by Faux-besotted MAGAts.
Whichever D follows trump probably needs to have a similarly large media profile. But filled with good things, not stupid or evil things.
It’ll take half (or more) the next Administration to undo all the bad things this one has done. That should keep the next Pres in the spotlight.
Are you joking? It will take generations and trillions of dollars. I’m 70 and I don’t expect the country to to recover in my lifetime.
I’m 50 and I’m not sure I’ll see it recover in my lifetime.
Another example of him doing persistent damage to the cultural and political structure of this society.
I don’t think it will ever recover. I think we’ve probably lost our primacy in higher Ed for good, and also lost our place as de facto “leader of the Western world”. And i don’t expect we’ll ever get either of those back.
The top Chinese students will go to Chinese universities, and no one will ever really trust us, knowing that a single election can throw out every treaty.
We can fix the physical damage he inflicted. But we will never repair the damage to the American experiment. Like the Elves going into the West, that ship has sailed. The whole concept of a constitutional republic is based on the honor system. The people must agree that all are equal under the law. When half the country believes the Constitution protects their rights only, and the law binds others only, the illusion of self government evaporates. In truth, it’s been gone since Jan 6, and we’ve been in the death throes of democracy since then.
