I open this thread every day, not expecting the final, good news, but hoping to hear of at least a fall or hospitalization. Then I get to wondering how I’ll find out when it happens. We joke about celebrating with fireworks and flag extenders (which I am totally for) but what will it really be like? People got persecuted for joking when piece of shit Charlie Kirk got knocked off. Will they try to round up all the folks disrespecting Dear Leader? Because I’m afraid I won’t be able to contain my glee.

An assassination would turn him into a martyr. We need some sort of accident or medical issue.
I didn’t say anything about the manner of his death. If I had my druthers, it would be public, painful, lingering, and humiliating.

The one thing you can absolutely count on is that whatever happens, MAGA will turn it into a conspiracy. It’s going to be wild.
For all the (well deserved) talk of celebration, it would not surprise me if the overall reaction would be similar to when Nixon announced he would resign: a feeling of relief that, as Ford said, “Our long national nightmare is over.” Especially since, right up to the end, one couldn’t escape the concern that Tricky Dick would try some last-ditch tactic such as declaring martial law.
On the other hand, of course, our current nightmare will be anything but over. For one thing, Nixon didn’t do a fraction of the damage that the Orange Peril has wrought — and continues to wreak — on the country’s institutions. So cleaning up the mess will be a task not unlike the one Hercules faced with the Augean stables. One which will be faced with relentless opposition, since unlike 1974 MAGA, while perhaps diminished by its patron’s demise, will still be a potent force. So perhaps a celebration will indeed be appropriate before rolling up our political sleeves and getting to work.
What protects Trump is the knowledge that if he dies Vance will be President.

This is absolutely correct. To the core of True Believers and those fanning the flames, disability is impossible, much less death. We’re all looking forward to it, but I do have some trepidation about how the crazed will react.
The simplest one, which is guaranteed to be invoked immediately upon death (or other serious event for that matter), is that Covid vaccination killed him. No one, not even those over 80 with substantial co-morbidities, can possibly die of natural causes. If only he’d had timely access to plenty of horse-grade ivermectin and spike detox.

One Sunday night a few months ago, I fell asleep in front of the TV with the sound muted. I woke up in the wee hours of the morning (2-3am?) to see a closeup of JD Vance’s face on TV with a serious look on his face, talking but muted and I can’t read lips. For a few incandescent seconds I thought "is this it? Is Vance making a live early morning announcement? I scrambled to unmute…
…and it turned out they were playing a rerun of the previous morning’s ‘Meet the Press’ and it was just an interview with Vance

Then you read 27 complaints about the thread growing so fast without any news about real health issues.
Yeah, but this thread is a good outlet. Otherwise we’d all be punching holes in walls, throwing things at our TVs, or possibly kicking our dogs. Okay, not that last one.
