Now I certainly do not wish any ill on the pilots or anyone else that would have been on this aircraft (or the other aircraft) aside from Trump. But it would be such a Trump way to go, his helicopter just disregarding a busy airport because he thinks he’s got better shit to do.
A passenger jet is going somewhere around 180 MPH during takeoff, meaning it can clear 0.8 miles in about 16 seconds. Definitely too close for comfort.
Going back for a moment to the argument about whether Trump could use the US military to stage a coup, he doesn’t need them, he’s already built an army of vicious thugs who’ll happily beat up and kill anyone who opposes them. Yes, I mean ICE. Would the traditional armed forces stand back and stand by? Would they give allegiance to the newly elected and (hopefully already) sworn in president and resist the coup? Which they could crush like a stink bug if they chose to.
I think ICE has the willingness to do that, but they don’t have anywhere near the numbers or firepower.
Yes, they more than doubled their size, but that’s still only around 22,000 people. That’s not enough people to take over a country the size of the US.
Now, the 1.35 million active duty military personnel, that’s more plausible, and of course they have real hardware, which is why a coup is generally carried out by a military, not a handful of poorly-trained thugs pretending to be cops.
Of course, why the fuck are we even talking about this, except to note that it’s a moot point if he dies before the end of his term.
