Watch a Trump 2016 campaign event and one of his rallies lately and you see a huge decline. 10 years is a long time sure but it’s very noticeable because you see he still talks about the same things as then so it’s just the delivery that stand outs. You can say the stuff he talks about is just tired rhetoric on its own merit too but focus just on the delivery out of the mouth. It was a lot faster and less as if he is just reading someone else’s lines written for him.
To be honest this was the same identifier you could tell with Biden that he was declining a lot because Biden for all of his career up until his presidency used to be the no-filter guy who talked for too long if you put a microphone in front of him. But that made him seem authentic and shaped his public image to be president in the first place. And it’s how he became chairman of major senate committees and Obama’s point-man in the swing states in 2012. He became the frontrunner for 2020 as soon as Hillary lost because lots of people wanted him in 2016. Biden in 2016 would have crushed Trump if you watch his speeches back then.
Strange thing about old politicians though is Jimmy Carter was still very sharp in the mind in his 90s and could run rings around most younger politicians on major issues of the 2000s and 2010s with them or reporters. But without anyone ever thinking “maybe we could do with him back in there now”.
While normally not wanting to wish ill on a protagonist I’m prepared to make allowances.
In a schadenfreude situation of an extended fall down the stairs of AF1 in the full glare of national TV coverage … wouldn’t he just be the palliative care patient from hell?
I’m not sure if the clock sets on inaguration day or when the new congress is sworn in. You could argue either way I guess. I just wanted to be absolutely sure.
A theory I’ve heard floated over the last year or so is that if there’s any intention to remove him via the 25th amendment, Vance (and everyone else) is holding out until then to make sure he can still run for two terms after this one.
IF I was a murderous sort, which I am not, I think I’d go after them first. Trump without the Stephen Millers, Steve Bannons, Kash Patels, and Todd Blanches would be considerably less directed, and more prone to doing himself and the Republican cause harm than otherwise.
Problem is, outside of actual conspiracies and coups d’etat, most assassins are just lunatics acting on their own, and I kind of think that if we haven’t seen a coup d’etat already, we’re not going to.
