Trump is dying

If we assume that they are even invited.

Protocol is undoubtedly that living ex-presidents (and probably ex-VPs, too) would be invited to a state funeral for a president. Trump’s administration has had “fuck protocol and tradition” among its many features; if Trump dies in office, and is replaced by Vance as president, it would not surprise me at all if they decide to only invite true believers.

Everyone else can rent out Madison Square Garden for a memorial where everyone can speak poorly of the deceased.

as a matter of realpolitik, I imagine that most of the world leaders will be busy, and send a representative. .Maybe their retired ex-ambassador to the US, or some minor official like their Minister of Education or something. That way they don’t totally ignore protocol, but they also don’t show any respect for Trump.

Followed by their media lackeys asking why all the Democrats didn’t even have the common decency to show up.

If I owned a business, I’d have an extension ready for the flagpole so I could fly the flag at double staff when that joyous day happens.

I hope that, out of respect for the office, world leaders acknowledge it by sending the most junior diplomat they can find.

US Navy ships have a holiday flag flown on special occasions. At 17 x 8.95 feet it is nearly twice as big as the ordinary ensign. Shore stations have one bigger yet if they have a pole tall enough (55 ft.)

You beat me to it – that’s exactly the image that flashed into my head.

Although it also occurs to me that you might not get much of a reaction today from sticking a pin into that hand with all the makeup on it.

There were so many new posts… I thought for a moment it had really happened. Finally.

:sigh:

I dread the day I see…

Trump is dying (part 2)
Continuing the discussion from Trump is dying (part 1)

and he’s not.

Trump doesn’t respect the office. Nobody should go.

Well, can you dance on his grave?

In the words of my beloved Grateful Dead:

I’d pour a beer on his grave. But I’d run it through my kidneys first.

Wait, can I do that now?

I mean that right now, there are a lot of Republicans who aren’t necessarily huge Trumpers, and who vote R. And there are huge Trumpers. When he dies, the first group won’t probably be too vocal about how tragic it is, etc… while the second group will. Kind of like the Charlie Kirk situation, only writ much larger.

Probably- Trump did show up to Carter and Bush’s funerals. I would imagine the still living presidents would show up to his, just to show respect for the office.

… even though Trump has no respect for the office.

True, but I think they’d be trying to set a precedent of sorts that Presidential funerals should be apolitical, not make any kind of statement about the man himself.

The only thing I wish any ex-presidents would do is for W to endorse James Talarico or something like that in these midterms.

You mean like Karl Rove did?

To quote John Oliver, “You know things have gone off the rails when you’ve lost the moral high ground to Karl Fucking Rove.”

Dance? When I have a zipper handy?

Since an upside-down US flag is a sign of distress, wouldn’t that person likely be a critic of Donald?

So when The Day arrives, the person may well take down the upside-down flag and turn it right-side up—and fly it high.
