Trump is dying

This gives me the opportunity to re-post one of my favorite videos of all time: Jimmy Kimmel’s Na-Na Hey Hey Goodbye to Trump from 2020.

In my “little Utah” very Trumpy neighborhood I expect dead silence.

I bought a whistle that is supposed to reach 120 db for safety when I walk my dog down at the quarry. I intend to go outside and blow as hard as I can. Maybe set off the car alarm as well!

In reality, I suspect there will be a great many people who will be genuinely upset. And even if Trump’s death is clearly, unmistakably due to natural causes, there will certainly be conspiracy theories about how he was murdered by the Deep State. God help whatever doctor happens to be in charge of his care when he dies; that doctor will be blamed for not doing enough, and might even face criminal charges for failing to save the great man, no matter how medically impossible it might have been.

As for cheering and celebrating, I’m expecting a reaction like when Charlie Kirk died, times a million. Anyone seen celebrating Trump’s death, or posting anything less than full-on weeping and wailing on social media, can expect to receive death threats, and find their employers besieged by demands that they be fired immediately. I suspect a great many such people will indeed be fired, just like in the case of Charlie Kirk. MAGA is not going to suddenly come to its senses just because Trump is dead.

Maybe 20 years after Trump’s death, most people will insist that they never really liked him that much. But in the immediate aftermath? He’ll be a martyred saint, and anyone speaking ill of him will be regarded as obvious traitors to be destroyed. And assuming Trump dies while in office, the presidency will still be in MAGA hands, and will have the power to make that happen.

Realistically, I think I’d get a flurry of text messages from friends and email updates from news sources. I might hear a few horn honks, but I sort of doubt it.

I think bars might see more business with people celebrating, but otherwise I think people might crack that bottle of wine and celebrate quietly at home.

I do think that it’ll be the time when we really see who are Trumpers and who aren’t among the conservative types. Those who are will lionize him and talk about how the nation’s suffered a great loss, how he was a great man, how the nation is in mourning, etc… The ones who aren’t, are going to lean into the respect due the office when its holder dies in office. They’re not going to wax poetic about Trump himself.

That’s assuming it’s old-age/ill health that gets him. If it’s some sort of foul play, then all bets are off about how anyone would behave.

My counter will be to ask why they’re mourning a rapist.

Don’t damage your own hearing, though.

I’d be very interested to find out which world leaders decline to attend his funeral.

Or is the rest of the world civilised enough to put aside grievance to honour the sanctity of the role of POTUS, regardless of the man.

I hope this. If Biden and Obama are still alive at the time, I expect them to show respect for the office and be at the funeral.

I think I’d support this, but I don’t know. Trump is the very definition of a special case, and I think it hypocritical for those who expressed contempt to show up. Honoring the office is inextricably linked with the man in this instance. I think.

Anyway, I defer to Obama’s judgment.

I wouldn’t blame them if they didn’t feel like flying halfway around the world to attend. I’m sure they all have “matters of national importance” to tend to.

…because?

If I’m understanding the post correctly, 8/5/2025 is nine months after Trump was elected president for the second time. Which assumedly would mean that your parents were celebrating the victory.

There’s two reasons people go to funerals: respect, and making sure they’re really dead.

Personally, I hope no one shows up. He is an utter evil anomaly, who somehow conned stupid people into voting for him. He has sullied the office, maybe, beyond repair. Fuck him. Throw him in a ditch and forget him.
NO one should have to sit and pretend the corpse at that funeral is anymore than a grifting, raping, piece of shit.

Yeah, I’m thinking of the funeral scene for Audrey Hepburn’s husband in the movie Charade. One of the guys sticks a pin in Charles’s hand to make sure he’s really dead.

When your toenails really need cleaning, you’ve got to do it right then. You can’t put it off and go running around the world somewhere

My guess is that it is because: do you really want to be born to parents who were celebrating the anniversary of January 6, 2021? (Okay, it’s one day off, but it was the first thing I thought of.)

You are (I knew it was probably too oblique)

I got it.

If you don’t go to other people’s funerals, they won’t go to yours.
