Trump is dying

Yes, but can it be fired out of the same diameter tubes as the Mk-48 torpedo without loss of warhead payload…?

Oh, I think we can sacrifice the payload…

“Back of the bus.”

Lol …

The biggest disappointment of not believing in an afterlife is that you know the true believers will never get to know how wrong they were. No “ha ha you thought you were going to heaven?” “You though Christianity was right?” “Here’s your accordion”. Nope, just…nothing. No comeuppance, no realization, no justice, no karmic retribution. The good and the wicked end the same way. Nothingness.

somehow that just doesn’t seem fair.

Life is not fair, and neither is death it seems.

If you check your atheism starter kit, it comes with an infinite supply of cosmic injustice.

I thought that was just the packing paper, I didn’t look at it.

“Justice” is an idea invented by human beings based on wishful thinking, certainly not on reality. Justice has nothing to do with the way the world/universe/cosmos/reality operate. Just look at Nature.

If you seek justice in any but the most limited, temporal, specific instances, you are a naive child doomed to walk a path of frustration and defeat.

There are people of all faiths and no faith who choose this path, and I say God bless 'em. I’m too cynical – and realistic – to go this way.

Just to let you know, this elicited a true belly laugh out of me this morning. It was sorely needed. Thank you!

It depends on how you look at it.

If you are a baseball fan, and you watch an umpire who gets calls wrong constantly, you can say he’s shitty at his job but if he’s equally wrong with all of the players, then you can’t say he’s being unfair.

Similarly, an uncaring universe that operates equally to all people isn’t an unjust one. Shit happens. If you define “justice” as the lack of “injustice”, then the universe is one that operates with justice. It’s only when humans with a free will get involved and intentionally fuck things up that justice fails, and it takes someone with free will wanting to fix things to undo it and restore justice.

Or at least that’s how I look at it.

HeRBeRT!

You know, I used to think it was awful that life was so unfair. Then I thought, wouldn’t it be much worse if life were fair, and all the terrible things that happen to us come because we actually deserve them? So, now I take great comfort in the general hostility and unfairness of the universe.

I didn’t care for Space Robin Hood when I watched that (excellent) show, but that’s still a good quote.

This is precisely what I mean when I say that “the most limited, temporal, specific instances” are the only circumstances where my worldview permits a discussion about justice. This is the (the only, IMHO) appropriate level at which to talk about justice.

I’m not claiming that the universe is “unjust,” nor do I attribute human qualities like “caring” or “uncaring” to the Milieu/Realm that we find ourselves in. I’m saying that claims of justice or injustice are meaningless outside of the small, specific situations like the one you cited at the ball game. IOW there is no global/universal justice OR injustice. We pretend there is because humans are “meaning-seeking” entities and we can’t help ourselves. We call the universe “caring” or “uncaring” to try to find some kind of redemptive meaning in events that seem cruel or otherwise confound us. The universe doesn’t have human attributes.

I don’t define justice that way, and I don’t define it at all when referring to the Universe at Large; I reject the concept at that level.

If an earthquake happens and hundreds of people and animals are killed, where does that fit into your idea of failing justice because humans have screwed up?

It’s only useful to talk about justice WRT human-sized events. The concept fails to be useful, and in fact becomes meaningless, when applied to the Universe.

Okay, 'nuff on that, I think.

As interesting as it is, I suggest we curtail this discussion, because we’re getting away from the positive and uplifting topic of this thread. :headstone: Let’s focus on that.

It will be one of the happiest days of my life when I see this thread in the topic list with a mod having added “UPDATE- has died xx/xx/20xx”

My guess is that his dementia is progressing much faster and that before 2027 he’ll be far enough gone that even the hardiest of MAGA will be calling him Senor Droolcup and he’ll be ousted via the 25th.

That’s basically in line with my philosophy on the matter as well.
