Huh. I first heard about it via local Chicago news. Then again, Chicago is not feeling warm and fuzzy towards the administration right now so that tracks. CNN described the “King Jet” although used the term “raw sewage” for the shit payload, but then they avoid saying four letter words like “shit”. The New York Times had an article about it the day after No Kings II.
So… sure, OAN and FOX might not be talking about it but other major news outlets certainly are.
It’s because what passes for the CFSG’s “brain” stops at the lizard level.
Courtesy of AI. I added the bolding:
“Lizard brain” refers to the primitive, instinctual part of the brain responsible for survival instincts like the fight, flight, or freeze response. It’s a popular, though oversimplified, term for the most basic brain structures, like the brainstem and amygdala, which trigger immediate reactions to perceived threats. These responses are fast but can override more rational thought processes
The stronger moral is that there can be two bad parties. The wolf didn’t become good because the little boy was a liar. The little boy doesn’t become a saint because the wolf really was a villain (I mean, it’s good that he tried to warn the townsfolk when the wolf really came, but we know from previous evidence that he’s still a questionable individual - arguably, he might only be crying for help, to save himself).
Every time you look at a situation and feel like you need to side with someone and that a failure to do so is somehow “both-sidering” is incorrect. There really are situations where there’s no good side, and in that case you’re just being sane and reasonable to be negative on both.
There’s other cases where a person is too shy and doesn’t want to risk relationships with anyone, so they use both-siderism to try and stay neutral and in a positive connection with everyone. That’s a dishonest practice of ostriching.
So we’re talking about Trump’s targeting John Bolton?
IN re Hitler on the jet plane—of course I’d been referring to Donald-with-crown flying around doing what he does best, but Hitler’s experience does seem fitting (for either one of them).
In your metaphor, you also have to be careful of false equivalencies.
The “boy” is a trolling shithead in the story, letting his boredom endanger everyone, but he’s not directly causing death and destruction, unlike the wolf.
On the other hand, the boy is making a deliberate decision to be deceptive and to shirk his duties. The wolf is an animal living by its nature, and not malicious, just hungry and living by instinct.
You still have to be cautious about “bothsiderism” when you legitimately have two bad sides in a conflict. You’re not just risking a situation where you make both sides look bad, as you say they might actually be bad, but you also risk making them seem like they aren’t different, when they can be as different as possible while still being bad in their own way.
Tentatively. So far, it looks like Bolton deserved it - but he hasn’t yet had a chance to defend himself so there’s the potential that there’s more to it than the prosecution has shown. Most indications are that Trump was far more cavalier with classified materials, and his actions to avoid having to defend himself imply the lack of any real defense - as we saw with other things where he was successfully prosecuted/fined.
But there’s genuinely no duty to chant for one of them to stay out of jail. They really can both be deserving of going to jail.
Agreed. Even if what Trump did was 100 times worse, if Bolton is guilty and it can be proven, he should be prosecuted for it. Regardless of the hypocrisy that the DOJ is ultimately run by a guy far more guilty, it doesn’t excuse whatever Bolton did.
It sucks that Trump won’t be going to jail, but the world isn’t always fair.
Yes, absolutely (assuming the Bolton evidence supports that kind of sentence).
It’s always important to point out, however, that Donald likely would have ordered Bolton indicted even if Bolton hadn’t been arrogant about his need to write a bestseller, and his decision that this outweighed the need to treat classified information according to protocol. Donald’s indifference to the law is always a story worth highlighting.
