Trump requests ride in Queen's carriage

So would a lot of Americans, around half I suspect.

I’m reminded of this recent thread. Especially since all other news sources point back to that one article in The Times.

Sounds to me like such a carriage ride is more or less SOP for state visits, and US presidents typically opt out (for obvious security reasons), and Trump (or some folks in his administration) are rethinking that. Or something.

The French Impressionists? I hasten to remind, a love of Monet is the root of all evil!

I wish I’d said that.

I’m going to need you to sit in the hall and think seriously about what you’ve done here.

I have it on good authority that Trump is having the White House bowling alley reworked so that by the touch of a button the lanes will unfold into a diorama showing the location and vulernabilities of North Korea’s biggest coal mine, and his diabolical plan to nerve gas the troops guarding it, drive in disguised as officers, and place a small but particularly dirty nuclear device provided by Pakistan to irradiate all of the coal, thus increasing the value of US coal mines tenfold, conservatively speaking. His chief lieutenant in this act is stunt pilot Kellyanne “Notapussy” Conway and her Flying Circus of all female pilots. Steve Bannon, decked out in a steel-brimmed red “Make America Great Again” ballcap will be on hand to assure that no one interferes with the plan. Our only hope is that a bumbling, alcoholic, lascivious British Secret Intelligence Service agent will seduce Kellyanne (ugh!) and cause her to betray her boss’ plan, rigging the planes with fake gas and allow the agent to deactivate the weapon at the last possible second.

It is a sad, sad day when it is up to the British to save civilization as we know it.

Stranger

Protocol is that the Queen invites you to ride, you do not demand it. The Queen may not have wanted his dumb ass in her carriage. Especially her golden one.

Hey Don, why did you add a second lane? What, are you using it as a cover for installing a secret diorama?

Whereupon the Korean bodyguard takes off his hat, and you realize you’ve made a terrible mistake.

Maybe she should let him ride it just before the stroke of midnight …

Believe whatever you like. I’m just skeptical when there is only one source for a claim, and their source is some unnamed “official”. And I suspect the Queen knows enough about duty that if she were required, by protocol, to ride in a carriage with Trump, she’d do it.

Her Majesty is a woman of mature years, and is prone to any number of minor maladies that often and regrettably affect her schedule. However, my fondest wish remains he boorishly insults the Queen and Prince Phillip thrashes him like a guttersnipe.

Weird that both stories (this one and the one about the supposed bill presented to Angela Merkel) were only published in The Times of London. I always thought that this was a respectable paper. So do they just have a really good inside source or are their standards slipping?

Mine is that he has a heart attack and dies. No tie-in to a state visit to England required.

Mine is that he has a heart attack and dies someplace really embarrassing, like amid a gaggle of Russian Pee Hookers. In the Lincoln bedroom. In a sea of pee on Lincoln’s bed.

I would hope that the UK government is not going to enable Trump to further enrich himself at tax-payers expense, especially UK ones. Don’t let him stay at any property he owns in the UK (requiring vast numbers of security and entourage to pay for rooms at his own properties).

If he says no, then fine, no state visit. The full state visit is a privilege offered to a head of state by the Queen, not something he can dictate terms on.

When the visit was first talked about, there were reports that it would take place at Balmoral. That would be VERY unusual for any kind of official event, so I assumed it was bogus, but maybe it would be best. He’s not going to be any less controversial in October, and huge protests are not good hospitality, so hiding him away in rural Scotland might be for the best. And it’s the Queen’s private property (which is why the report seemed off), and Trump is all about doing public business on private property.

Nitpick: Lincoln probably never slept in the Lincoln bed.

Personally, I hope he dies a slow and agonizing death due to complications of syphilis.

May he drown, holding copies of his 5 deferments, in the accumulated rotted corpses of all the soldiers who have been sent to fight wars that were only in the interest of fat, rich old white men.

she pretends to run the UK and Trump pretends to run the US
