Trump to deliver a primetime address on Thursday, 7/16 at 9pm eastern

President Donald Trump will deliver a primetime address this week that he says will include a focus on elections, suggesting he could revisit long-debunked conspiracy theories about his 2020 defeat to Democrat Joe Biden. The speech comes as he’s escalated calls for Republicans to pass tighter federal voting rules for November’s midterm elections.

Trumps efforts to pass the SAVE act have stalled, but he hasn’t let it drop. While he’s promising “really big news” for this address, his last few addresses have just been rambling campaign speeches. It could be that this is just another effort to bolster support for SAVE, which is an attempt to nationalize at least some aspects of state-run elections.

I stated a few months ago a belief that senate Republicans would eventually flip on the SAVE act, a prediction which did not age well. And yet, the threat hasn’t gone away, with language from the SAVE act making it’s way into the reconciliation bill (that includes a terrifying budget for the military).

Additional speculation, unfounded nearest I can tell, is that the speech will coincide with a declassification of findings from the FBI’s raid of and investigation into the Georgia election system. As seasoned, apolitical FBI agents continue to be purged or put under such emotional strain that they’re forced to quit, the likelihood of a compromised FBI saying whatever the heck they want to say about GA increases, regardless of facts. The most fantastical hypothesis I’ve seen (100% rumor, I place no stock in this) is that they will announce some discrepancy in the '21 and '22 elections of Sens Ossoff and Warnock, respectively, and try to bar them from the Senate. I know of no mechanism for this, but if Trump is intending to save his own skin by rigging the midterms, which I firmly believe he is trying to do, he’s running out of time.

So, what predictions does the rest of the dope have for this address?

If it’s anything more than him just ranting about the same old crap again, this is probably the most likely scenario.

Of course, if this comes to pass, it will be entertaining seeing the GA election officials telling everyone that the FBI’s “evidence” and “analysis” are utter crap. This won’t be their first rodeo with Trump’s election bullshit, after all.

I hope most networks refuse to air it.

They really need to start showing these things on a delay, if at all. “Trump has just begun speaking. We’ll cut to him on the delay if he actually says anything useful or interesting.”

There’s a first time for everything, I suppose.

The ghost of Lindsey Graham will appear to give his full throated endorsement of the SAVE act.

Not going to watch this moron. It’ll be more of the same paranoid delusions with additional unhinged rambling. I can’t handle it mentally or physically. I’ll be on the road traveling anyways.

There are two predictions I will make.

  1. Trump will lie like a bastard.

  2. I will not tune in.

Don’t forget
3: Trump will try to sell something to his rubes.

I wonder if he’ll be able to stay on topic or if he’s going to start talking about monuments and shit. We can tell he struggles with literacy so any kind of prepared speech is going to consist of only the parts he can remember. Tangents will abound. Didn’t he give a speech some time back that didn’t really amount to anything other than him bitching about various things for an hour? I think this one will be similar.

Since we’re at a state of emergency, since Iran attacked us first, I’m cancelling elections until Putin and me build our resort in Ohman. All campaign money will be collected to pay for my arch de Trump.

IOW, a new fantasy/delusion is the top matter.

All I know is that Trump is terrified that after the midterms he may face a Congress that will no longer be his lapdog and that he can’t control. I suspect that this will be an announcement or a call for plans to manipulate the midterms in favour of Republicans, disguised as “election integrity”.

He’ll whine like a little baby about having an election stolen from him in 2020. He will never get over that for the rest of his miserable existence. He’ll announce breathtaking “proof” of election irregularities that will justify draconian measures to suppress democratic vote.

I heard an actual Washington reporter mention this rumor (which he also noted was pure rumor) while stating with more certainty that the speech will be about the SAVE Act, among the usual other grievances, and boasts that pepper his speeches.

It’s up in the air as to which, if any, broadcast networks will run the speech live. AIUI the general practice is for the White House to brief news organizations on the general topic of a speech in the morning and provide some specifics for the correspondents to blather about during the day, and to make the decision whether to pre-empt their programming for it. You’d think covering a Presidential speech live in prime time during the middle of the summer rerun season would give the networks something fresh to run with, but long before Trump they complained about Presidents demanding prime time for blatant political stuff.

Or true.

This. And:

  1. I will continue to hope against hope that when Trump is SO unhinged and SO desultory, the masses will finally begin to understand that we have a narcissistic loon for a president.
  2. My hopes will be dashed.

It’s going to be a potpourri of grievances and threats. There was massive Democratic election fraud in 2020, our very great FBI has compiled tons of evidence, which we’ll be showing everyone in a few weeks. And because it’s so bad, the worst, really, we’re going to have federal supervision of the November elections and if we don’t, we may not have them at all.

Then there will be the accusations hurled at Georgia, something to keep the media nattering on about for months. When things are going badly, make up a new problem to shift the attention of an idiotic populace and a media which is always racing to catch up.

You can be sure that Fox News won’t air it live. They’ll carefully filter out all of the nonsense, and then just air whatever soundbites they think are best.

Gee, I hope he doesn’t have a R. Budd Dwyer moment. That would be terrible.

I predict it will be his usual blathering, complaining, and unfounded boasting.
