Trump to deliver a primetime address on Thursday, 7/16 at 9pm eastern

CBS and Fox News aired it.

every few minutshe summary is putting out a very detailed and well written 400+ word historical analyses and debunkings of Trumps claims. Either, AI is getting really good or they had it in their back pocket expecting him to make these exact claims.

I don’t believe it is. I remember a number of times in the past when at least one network declined to air a clearly political non-emergency speech.

A quick AI search brings up three:

  1. President Gerald Ford’s 1975 address on spending and tax cuts
  2. President Barack Obama’s 2014 address on immigration executive actions
  3. President Joe Biden’s 2022 address on threats to democracy

Oil change done. Now watching Scrabble on TV and surfing the Dope.

Doesn’t seem to be a lot else on TV tonight, so I may throw in a DVD.

Oh, shit. Is it over? I think I missed it. Damn! If anyone saw it, did Trump lie about anything? Because that was one of my predictions.

I predict the Pacific Ocean tends to be a bit damp.

Yep, it’s over. NBC reports that it lasted about 25 minutes. Because he is a small man with no stamina.

Trump didn’t lie about anything. He lied about EVERYTHING. From what I can tell reading initial reactions and reporting. China got Biden elected. There is rampant election fraud everywhere. Every state uses electronic voting machines without paper trails. We’ve already won in Iran. And inflation isn’t his fault.

I’m watching the speech on CBS. The first thing to note is they cutaway from Trump after 20 minutes or so, long enough for him to accuse China of trying to steal elections, and saying they found 250,000 illegal aliens registered to vote.

The second thing to note is after they cut away from Trump, CBS had its own correspondents and analysts debunking the charges and explaining carefully how ballots are collected and how voting machines aren’t connected to the internet. And as I’m typing this they have Democratic Sen. Mark Warner assailing Trump for dismantling Federal efforts to secure voting.

Now they have a Trump loyalist saying all the revelations and accusations Trump made are ALL NEW evidence that even our own intelligence community was unaware of because the deep state hid it from us. Tony Dokoupil then bookended the interview with a comment from Kamala Harris and a debunking recap from Major Garrett.

IMHO Bari Weiss is doing a poor job of trying to get CBS News to come to the dark side.

Meanwhile, Fox News says he’s full of shit.

Good summary and refutation:

What amazes me is that there’s never any shortage of receptive audiences for these monstrous demagogues. And the audiences always have a very similar demographic: a bit lost, uneducated, not particularly intelligent, lacking in critical thinking skills, profoundly credulous.

Long term, that’s the fundamental problem that needs to be addressed, despite the fact that the R’s are basically the enemy in this one (, too): we need a smarter electorate.

Don’t forget we were all transgender when Biden was in office and apparently aren’t anymore??

Yes, registration rolls may need to be cleaned up, but is there any evidence that improperly registered people actually voted? That any dead people actually voted? That fraud registration forms were actually accepted? I do know that in Michigan a number of would-be gubernatorial candidates were disqualified for invalid petitions, but they were all Republicans.

huh, go figure. /s

Yeah that checks out. It seems invariably that every time real, actual, verifiable voter fraud has occurred in some fashion, when it’s uncovered it’s always on the Republican side.

That’s why Trump keeps riding the “election fraud” messaging so hard. If they could get away with it they would. (And they are going to try. Much like they did with the fake electors scheme in 2020.) So they assume the other side is doing it automatically. No empathy means they think everyone thinks and behaves exactly like they do.

Every accusation… You know the rest.

And all the CEOs too!

Realistically, Trump admitted that the CEO of TikTok showed him evidence that the platform had somehow helped him during the election.

As we all might recall, the youth all turned out against Kamala because of her endorsement of the Palestinian genocide.

Or, “What gets measured gets managed.”

Well, we know he’s afraid of Democracy.

Democracy is his strength. A Republic is his fear.

MSNOW aired the first 10 minutes or so, and then cut back to regularly scheduled programming.

What I’m finding interesting is that the World Cup thread is moving a lot more than this one. Perhaps it’s because the World Cup posters are looking at different insights into the two teams’ abilities, even a few days out; while we all knew what Trump was going to say, so there was little to no point in commenting?
