Where’s the evidence that our country’s representatives don’t know who we’re letting in and who we’re not? Refugees get checked out pretty thoroughly as it is before they are allowed in. I’m more afraid of our home-grown right wing terrorists, myself.

The belief that the FBI is unable to properly vet Syrian refugees comes from a congressional hearing last month where FBI director James Comey said it would be “challenging” to vet Syrian refugees because of the lack of data sets available to the FBI—things like local police records, information from intelligence services and the like—in Syria. Comey did not appear to say it was impossible, just challenging.

But hey, bring up everything and anything you can (yet again, like eighty other threads don’t count) about how you hate Trump, his racists and Hitler-esque ideas and the ideologues who voted for him (the traitors), the sexist and misogynistic tendencies of him and his supporters, in a thread talking about Trump and his Tweats about Russia and our nuclear policy.

It’s obvious you’d rather talk about that than things you can actually say about the topic at hand.

That’s been the defense of trump’s supporters from the very beginning: “B…but…but…Clinton!”

Moreso, there’s the rest of this post: “I’m afraid you’re right, old boy. I can’t really defend trump, because he is really nasty. And if you discount everything he says, then you know what he means. Sort of. Anyway, back to Clinton…”

In my opinion, talking about trump’s other tendencies work toward character, as a lawyer might say in court. Besides the fact that this thread is on page 5 – everyone who’s posted on a forum knows discussions drift from the original topic anyway–by the way, this topic has stayed with trump virtually the entire time, which should be good news to you, because it keeps your guy in the public discourse.

So let me ask you a direct question about the topic. How can “Let there be an arms race” be a good thing, when decades of negotiations have tried to reduce the risk of nuclear war?

It’s you making the sad comment, actually, but I have no problem believing your debate skills are pretty darn sad.

Well, I’d reserve my scorn for the people who voted from Trump rather than Trump himself. He put on a racist and Hitler-esque act and a great many Americans loved him for it.

Well, if the topic at hand is his unthinking off-the-cuff tweetery, I’ve no problem blaming Trump for that exclusively. It seems entirely in his character to value bluster more than effort. That said, I’m willing to recognize the possibility that some randomness will allow progress in some areas that have been intractable for decades, i.e. the Koreas, China/Taiwan, Israel/Palestine, alongside the very considerable risk of making these situations worse. Throwing off a sour-grapes mini-rant about an unflattering SNL portrayal, though… that’s just childish.
