I am convinced that the only way to support a free press that will actively contest “alternative facts” is to get paid (electronic or paper) subscriptions to responsible publications. You pick 'em.
Let’s go back to December 7, 2015, when a press release from Mr. Trump’s office said this:
My bolding. As I recall, Mr. Trump repeated this precise statement numerous times on the stump, and all the countries currently affected are majority muslim. Whatever the Administration’s claims may be, it is not unreasonable to believe that the order is intended to target muslims.
Good. Fucking. Grief.
White House discussing asking foreign visitors for social media info and cell phone contacts
…because he was at home screaming into a pillow. (I made that last part up.)
One of my coworkers is a green-card who’s afraid to visit family in Mexico in case Trump tries to pull something like over Mexico refusing to pay for his stupid wall.
I don’t believe Spicer has the slightest problem lying.
He’s the one that came up with the “My Little Pony” defense over Melania’s plagiarism.
Indeed. This was in Canada’s National Post, which often reprints items, such as this, from the Washington Post:
Trump asked Rudy Giuliani for a ‘Muslim ban’ and ordered a commission to do it ‘legally’
Rudy does sound a lot like the gangsters of old that were even proud of their “work”. But, what about his own words that could be used in a court of law later? No worries, because like the gangsters of old, he does know that he has the authorities in his pocket.
I’ve kept my local subscription — paper and now e-edition — for about forty years, for pretty much the reason you mention. Granted that much of the time its value is limited to wrapping fish and lining birdcages, I do want it to stick around as a counterpoint to the drivel which masquerades as “news” all too frequently of late.
Its worse than morally wrong, it is also stupid and ineffective. The true Islamic nutbars aren’t recruiting their own to emigrate to America and hide out until they can attack. They are pouring out propaganda to reach American Muslim men and provoke them to some outrage that they can then claim to have planned and carried out.
Most likely, the would view an approach by an American Muslim with suspicion, they have to be expecting an effort to infiltrate. Why take such a risk when you can simply pour out provocative propaganda and wait for results? And if their “recruits” are mostly bitter, dim and half-crazy losers, why should they care? The appearance of power is power, making people afraid is the point of terrorism, why should they care if the appearance has no substance?
They are winning, they already have us creating more recruits for them by confirming their lies, that America is the enemy of anything Islamic. We make their case for them by wasting time vetting the innocent. Harassing and harrying pathetic Muslim refugees doesn’t prevent terrorism, it makes it more likely.
Bad enough that it is wrong, worse that it is stupid.
How many more enemies can he afford to make?
Senators WetStart and MissLindsey (former presidential candidates) said
So SaDon twitted back,
Damn those hawks, always trying to get WWIII going.
Would you be willing to take on a boarder? Give me a mattress and a closet, and you won’t even know I’m there. Usually.
You have to have a Wall, though.
[QUOTE=The Abomination of Desolation]
America is a proud nation of immigrants and we will continue to show compassion to those fleeing oppression, but we will do so while protecting our own citizens and border. America has always been the land of the free and home of the brave. We will keep it free and keep it safe, as the media knows, but refuses to say. My policy is similar to what President Obama did in 2011 when he banned visas for refugees from Iraq for six months. The seven countries named in the Executive Order are the same countries previously identified by the Obama administration as sources of terror. To be clear, this is not a Muslim ban, as the media is falsely reporting. This is not about religion - this is about terror and keeping our country safe. There are over 40 different countries worldwide that are majority Muslim that are not affected by this order. We will again be issuing visas to all countries once we are sure we have reviewed and implemented the most secure policies over the next 90 days. I have tremendous feeling for the people involved in this horrific humanitarian crisis in Syria. My first priority will always be to protect and serve our country, but as President I will find ways to help all those who are suffering.

Blames Obama twice - I bet his supporters are surprised as hell to find he’s blindly following Obama’s lead re terrorism! - and blames the media twice, in the space of just a few hundred words.
What a stand-up guy, I tell ya.
Between the ‘all lives matter’-ing of the Holocaust, and the Muslim ban, is it possible that the Trump Administration was observing National Brotherhood Week, and forgot to tell us?
It’s only for a week, so have no fear,
be grateful that it doesn’t last all year!
We should be so lucky.
The Feds are now ignoring recent court orders as if that branch of the government doesn’t even exist.
But, what can be done about this refusal? Can the officials be arrested? What recourse is there?
Arrested by who-the Feds?
The local police. Can a Federal judge orders local police to arrest federal agents? If so, will they?
There’s always Posse Comitatus. Although one of the movement’s key tenets seems to be rejection of any authority higher than the County Sheriff, I rather imagine they’d make an exception for His Orangeness.
The only thing that can be done is for Congress to impeach the officials who are refusing to comply.
Our system of government depends on the voluntary compliance with norms by public officials. If they decide not to comply, the system breaks down.
This is a constitutional crisis. This is how democracy ends.
