Trump's indictment--does it matter?

Although i seem to recall that the Eleventh Circuit rocket-docketed the previous decision, amazingly fast for the court system. Those judges can pick up their judicial skirts and scurry damned fast when they want to.

Yeah, those photos. No court case is ever an actual “slam dunk”, but this one comes damn close…

True that, but my experience proofreading motion practice hearing transcripts for the District of Massachusetts is that generally the judges and judge magistrates (who handle a lot of the procedural stuff rather than the trial judge) will allow reasonable extensions of time for discovery, for example, and routinely allow exclusion of time calculations “in the interests of justice” under the Speedy Trial Act. Although it’s also my observation that usually both sides have to agree to that.

And honestly, this case doesn’t seem that complicated. He had the documents, knew he wasn’t supposed to have the documents, he went out of his way to hide the documents, and he lied about it several times. Proving all of that really shouldn’t take too long. This isn’t some complicated financial scheme involving banks, loans, taxes, property valuations, and things like that, that are hard to understand. He had the documents, case closed.

But can you find 12 people in Florida who are impartial. If someone is a real Trumper and manages to hide it during voir dire, they might make conviction impossible. Then the jury is hung; will they go through it again? I don’t see this as the end of Trump.

page 14 where the box fell over and a picture was texted around. there are redactions in the court document, but i bet there won’t be in the trial. the room that was easy to get to and had multiple ways leading to it.

Well, you are half correct. The indictment doesnt matter unless it is followed by a conviction. In fact an indictment without a conviction could help trump.

But the chance trump wins in 2024 is remote. So you are wrong there. Not to mention many legal experts say that you can not pardon yourself.

From what I just read- just initially.

Right. She has demonstrated such bias that higher courts slapped her down for it.

That is simply not true. If he wins the nomination (for which he is the overwhelming favorite at this time) then his chances of winning are basically a coin flip at worst

He’s a Paler Shade of Orange.

And just why did that box “fall over”? Was someone going through the boxes, knocked that one over, left it like that and skedaddled before s/he got caught?

Biden beat him before and certainly will do so easily this time. Now of course, either of the two might be too sick to run, but of the two, I’d say trumps health is the most problematic.

You aren’t clairvoyant.

yep, remember, at one time china was know to try sending people in. what other countries tried that?

Absolutely true, and I wasn’t discounting these normal delays. But we’ve got nearly a year and a half. I think Smith’s team will be pressing hard to move along as fast as possible within these constraints.

mr smith did mention speedy trial for both the country and the defendant.

I’d say evidence beats logical thinking. And the only evidence we have, the polls, says that Trump is a bit ahead of Biden, even before taking into account the GOP electoral college advantage.

As for the latest indictment, what is worse — secrecy violations or sexual assault? I would have thought losing to E. Joan Carroll was bigger, and if it hurt Trump — and it must have — it was too little to be measured.

Again, I look at the evidence. And the only real evidence we have here is age. Weight? Google obesity paradox.

The big item we don’t know is how the economy will be a year now. If clearly better, Biden wins. I hope it is, but being optimistic won’t affect that.

Despite his criticism of Hilary Clinton, all he could remember is her email server was in an old bathroom. /facetious

A chandelier in the bathroom? He should get 300 years for that alone.

I disagree. He definitely has an ironclad base who will vote for him even if he’s found holding a bloody knife over a murdered puppy, but a number of people who voted for him in 2020 (which he lost, if narrowly) turned away after all his whining after the election. A lot more turned away after January 6th. I can only hope and imagine that the disclosures coming out in the various court cases will continue to peel off weak supporters. So he’s lost a lot of support he had in 2020 (which he lost), and he almost certainly hasn’t picked up any new devotees with his behavior since then. I agree he’s probably the nominee, but i disagree that he has a 50/50 chance to win. Not that it couldn’t happen, but it’s mathematically more difficult than 2020 was (which he lost).

Yeah, but that case fell into the he said-she said category, and we know his fans all love the crap he says. “So what, he got a slap on the wrist for talking smack about some old lady!”

But this stuff is him screwing around with secrets. And apparently at least some nuclear secrets. That’s a bit different. I hope at least some of his fans will see that.
