I’m trying to make a purchase. I click the “complete purchase” button. It takes me to the checkout page, where I have the option of PayPal or my debit card. If I choose debit, it needs me to update my security code. I do that and it takes me back to the check out page, like it’s supposed to, except there’s no “confirm and buy” button. So now I try PayPal, with which I usually have no trouble. It takes me to the little sign in window, which always has a wrong saved password. I put in the correct password, a spinny thing spins around a little, and it says “processing”. Then it just drops me off again at the sign in page, with no “buy” button. I can’t consummate this relationship. eBay’s help department is a complicated joke. What can I do? All the blanks are filled in correctly. I’ve signed off and back on, and even restarted my computer (getting desperate!) Seller wants money.
Do you have a smartphone or a different computer you can try? I’ve used PayPal on eBay at least 100 times and never had an issue. Are you running the latest OS with all the latest security patches? Is your browser up to date? Have you tried a different browser?
Everything is up to date. I’ve tried phone and computer to no avail.
Have you changed your credit card recently. eBay refuses to accept one of my credit cards.
After tearing my hair out for the last two days, I asked him if the fact that I was in the US was a problem (he’s in Europe) and he sent this: “No worries, as I just received an e-mail from eBay letting me know that on July 5 my account will be activated for managed payments. So I guess that’s the reason why you can’t complete your payment.
As such, please try again making this payment Monday, July 5 and sorry for this inconvenience.
Have a great weekend!”
Grrr…
Earlier this year eBay changed its payment policy. Sellers must receive payment only to a bank account, and not thru PayPal. I don’t know why. Last month I paid for a purchase using PayPal, so it’s still active for buyers. Go figure.
This BBC article might explain some of it, although it’s a bit unclear exactly why eBay is doing it.
