TubaDiva is back as an admin after less than 30 days - how do YOU feel?

Well put.

TubaDiva let a personal agenda interfere with her responsibility as a professional. She should have acknowledged that she was unfit for administrator because she couldn’t control her personal bias.

She’s not the first SDMB staffer to do this, and not the first be absolved by the staff for it. In the sense that the board has validated her actions, it’s not a big deal. This is the board, we can live with it or we can leave. Whoop. It’s not like this is the first time any of us have faced non-perfection we still love dearly.

In the sense that TubaDiva still a vigilante who sees herself above law and policy (per her most recent post about “good intentions”), I’m still upset. It’s not a matter of releasing the information. It’s the smearing, the threats, and the gloating that went along with it. The giddy relishing of power, the sheer enjoyment at using her status to discredit someone. She took pleasure in this, and I feel she’s taking pleasure in the vindication.

It would be easier to seperate my utter lack of faith in TubaDiva and my mildly rolly-eye feelings about the boards if they weren’t still connected.

That’s how I feel. And yes, by me posting this opinion and now bowing down to the “You’re completely with us or you’re silent” demands, the terrorists have already won.

Of course you would want this thread closed, Lynn. After all, you’re the moderator who violated another member’s privacy last year. Touchy subject, perhaps??

How do I feel about the question in the OP?
Disappointed, but not surprised. 30 days suspension is a token punishment - especially for someone who’s supposed to ensure that the mere members keep the rules.

Perhaps the board’s golden rule should be - “Only mods and admins are permitted to be jerks. Any member attempting to emulate them will be banned.”

All Humans are capable of error.
A few humans are capable of forgiveness of errors.
I am also capable of forgiveness, puny Earthlings. :stuck_out_tongue:

An even better time would be after someone made a post like “Hey Lord Ashtar! I’m not renewing, and I want you to know about it!”

This is my first and last post on this subject.

Thank you Blue Ruin, whoever you are ( i will leave it up to the mods thanks Dorkness ). I was unaware that TB had been re-instated untill your pit post. Thats because i only graze the BBQP and GD forums. The half hearted apology was posted in a forum i dont look at. Not much good to me.

TubDiva -

If you had the boards best interests at heart, you would have resigned as a mod and this subject may have died a natural death.

How long did it take you to come up with “Yes, i’m back” as an official appolgy title? Would “An appolgy to the SDMB community” not have come accross a little better?

Why did you not lock your ‘appology’ immediatly after you had posted it? Did you leave it open to make sure all the “welcome back, i think your great” posts were recorded for all to see? The most effective apologies are unreserved, simple and encourage no fluffing from your supporters. Your style only helps to polarise the situation.

Now we come to your actual appology:

1.“Samuel Johnson may or may not have said it first, but the path to hell is paved with good intentions.”

Eh? A bit obtuse to start with, but carry on…

2.“Having had some time to reconsider the path I walked a little over a month ago, I can clearly see my intentions took me where I did not intend to go.”

What? Where DID you intend to go? Theres that path again…

3.“I will not attempt to give my reasons or try to justify any part of it. Much of the situation involves information that I cannot ever publicly discuss. With the new emphasis on privileged, confidential information, this is true now more than ever before.”

What is true now more than ever before? Discussing the event? We couldnt discuss it before - the threads kept getting locked and then hidden - and now we cant discuss it even less !

4.“In any event, another round of discussion of the circumstances would not be in the best interests of the community. Nothing would be better; nothing would be served.”

What does the last sentence mean ? Is it a famous quote?

5.“I deeply regret my intemperate actions.”

I think that was the appology…

6.“I hope we can put this behind us and move forward.”

Agreed.

LyneB - surely the best way to calm this thread down is let it be. Threatening to close it unless someone comes up with a new argument is just fukin stupid.
Perhaps you can explain what the difference is between a mod and an admin ?

Lord Ashter - the only way to let the admin of this board know how one feels about their performance is by leaving. If people think this is a leaving matter, then they should say so - but probably on their last post to avoid any ‘please dont go’ behaviour. Also, as pointed out in your thread, it is usefull FTR.
Oh and ’ fuck you ’

Sin

(Bolding mine)

Please tell me the irony is intentional.

Are you kidding? That has always been the non-spoken rule of this board. Have you ever encountered UncleBeer? He’s almost always a complete prick. Chronos? Demonstrated he’s a jerk more than once. Dex? Don’t get me started. Manny was quite an asshole at times when he was a mod. Of course, the explanation has always pretty much amounted to the fact that it is their sandbox and they’ll do as they please. That has been the on-going understanding for as long as I can remember.

Of course, some people thought that now that many of us chip in a bit to help maintain that sandbox we might get some say as to how people play in it. Wrong again. It’s still their fucking sandbox, their fucking arbitrary rules. Now we’re still “allowed” in the sandbox and we still have to play by whatever rules they have decided on today but now we get to fucking pay for the privilege of being subject to their whims. Isn’t it fun?

Now, why do we do it? Because we, for the most part, like each other’s company. We like to discuss things. We like to argue. Many of us don’t give two shits for the mods or admins. I personally have lost no respect for Tuba–didn’t have it to start with. Yes, I think she’s an asshole for doing what she did but it didn’t surprise me at all. No shock that there was no real apology either.

Now Lynn would like to shut down this thread. Did you hear my gasp of surprise there? Didn’t think so. However, allow me to suggest that we close the Great Debates forum completely. Or at least have topics screened and approved by the Sandbox Police before they are posted. After all, you could pretty much say for a lot of the threads that get posted there: We’ve gone over and over this issue, and I don’t think that people’s minds are going to change, one way or the other.

Agreed. Leaving this thread open as a sounding board is harmless, and will help many members achieve a kind of catharsis. The top sticky in ATMB served exactly this purpose for a while, and it eventually wound down once everyone spoke their peace (which not everone will do in a single post, mind you).

Whether or not new arguments are made in this thread or minds are changed is not really important, IMHO. This whole affair is the kind of thing that needs to brought up every now and again, actually, to reinforce exactly why privacy is a matter that cannot be handled on an ad hoc basis. We should still be talking about it for years to come (although hopefully with more reflection and less vitriol).

Hey Lord Ashtar, no one gives a shit about your thread and your subsequent whoring of it.

Rather, I don’t give a shit. Should I go make my own thread announcing this fact to the world?

Yes, sir.

sinical-obviously, she doesn’t care about the boards cred, just the power. I think she would make a good dominatrix.

Would? What do you think she was doing for those 30 days?

Sure, go wild.

Of course, that’s contingent on making self-aggrandizing non-sequitors in threads with links to your thread.

Firstly, do I seriously pay attention to someone who is a guest, has never before posted on this board under his nom-de-plume and is probably a lurker or worse, a banned member?
NO!! :dubious:
But let me say this: :o
I was appalled by what TubaDiva did but not necessarily angered. :frowning:
I presume the punishment fit the offense: anyone anal enough to want to be an administrator here must chaff at the bit not being allowed to do their job. :stuck_out_tongue:
One does not spank the child who spills their milk. The situation in which Tubs found herself in was a genuine grey area. The administrators clarified this. Perhaps she should have consulted her fellow admins, maybe she did bit dropped the ball - I don’t know, how can I second guess without facts.
Sometimes the appearance of impropriety has the same effect as actual impropriety, so such actions are best avoided. A cooling of period was needed, a month’s suspension was had. What more do you want? :wally

Welcome back Tubadiva.

Ooooh, a poisoning the well logical fallacy based on hasty generalizations. Most impressive.

It’s not the poster that matters, but the issue. Who he is has absolutely no relevance to the topic at hand.

The hell it was. “No privacy policy here!”. She knew perfectly well that she was breaking the rules. Then, she posted it twice.

More of a rule of thumb and pinkie:
I take such rants with a grain or two of salt.

To use a language you might understand:  What about the people who have racked up thousands of posts since '99? A lot of people agree with the OP; are they all “probably a lurker or worse, a banned member”, or will you “seriously pay attention to” them?

And in that mess of smilies, you totally neglected the Happy Orthodox Jew. Asshole.

I agree with DocCathode (he must be my sock  ), there was no gray area.

Not to mention, what the hell was her point in posting it? She wasn’t trying to “protect or warn” anyone that there was a SEX OFFENDER!!! in our midst. No, she just wanted to get a shot in at said person, just to satisfy her own need for revenge or whatever.

“Grey area” that she “found herself in?” She didn’t find herself in it-she skipped into it gleefully. And basically did nothing but make it fodder for gossip and speculation.
