I find the concept that she might have thought there was any gray area here more disturbing than the idea that she just didn’t care.
You know, you’re right. Today I merrily went through my day without nary a thought of terrorism, drug laws, the local political climate, etc. Clearly these issues are also not important, if only because I neglected to think of them.
Are you unfamiliar with what exactly happened? TubaDiva was the one who turned an issue that began as a “just a message board” topic, into a very real situation that has affected members outside this “virtual community.” Boundaries were crossed and that’s what I, and many other have a problem with.
And they’re just fucking mods/admins. Who probably wouldn’t have such ridiculously overblown egos and inflated self-importance if some folks would stop blowing so much smoke up their asses. (“Humble” indeed…)
Despite their hard work, I’ve lost all respect for many of them. Not that they give two shits. And I’m sure it’s more than balanced out by the ass-kissers.
So, the mods make the rules while imposing their interpretation of those rules on the folks that pay (or in my case may pay)?
How very odd.
We have two mods that have violated privacy (from what i have read) and retain their moderator privileges without sanction?
We have folks that suck up to the mods, see “I’m back” in “About this Message board” that can say what they want where they want, but if you disagree you are a thread shitter.
But those that call you a thread shitter can go into a thread in the Pit that is not supportive of the Mod in question and piss on it and expect to be accepted?
This place reeks of hypocrisy. I expected so much more. My bad.
Are you equating the SM matter to terrorism, drug laws, the local political climate, etc?
Because these are things I do think about, because they matter.
The SM incident, doesn’t.
I am quite familiar with what exactly happened, just as I’m quite familiar that someone is posting Tuba’s address and home phone on LJ.
What Tuba did was not wise, neither is that.
Are there other members other than SM that were affected by her lapse in judgement?
I am not aware of any.
I like this messageboard as much as the next person, and I guess what I was trying to say was, whether Tuba remains here or is removed, it doesn’t matter, life still goes on.
I still have to go to work.
I still have pay my kids tuition and my other bills.
I still have to take the garbage out.
The sun will rise, the sun will set.
Some of you have to come back to reality, and not have your day revolve around this message board.
It doesn’t revolve around you.
Nobody made you junior mod, you don’t have the right to throw wild accusations at newbies because they look suspicious. When you actually took the time to do a cursory search on Blue Ruin’s name, you realized your accusations were “probably” unfounded. Then you go and say his opinion doesn’t matter anyway because he’s new (something you can’t prove, as others have pointed out). Asshole problems much?
And if we’re using post count to qualify manhood, yeah I guess you got me beat.
So … let’s get this straight. Some people are discussing an issue that they’re interested in. Meanwhile, you claim that you’re not interested in this topic, but you’ve posted to the thread twice now.
Remind me, who’s the one who has no life again? :dubious:
To all you people who keep kvetching that it’s “just a message board”: Gee, no shit? I guess that’s why people are discussing it here, on the message board, instead of organizing candlelight vigils and calling their state representatives and going door to door. What the fuck is wrong with having a debate about this topic when it’s clearly one that piques the interest of and apparently matters to so many in the community?
On topic: TubaDiva’s apology was IMO not equal to the level of strife her actions caused to the SDMB, the Reader, and the community as a whole. As someone who owns a (teeny tiny) message board, if I had a moderator who made such an egregious lapse in judgment, even one who had led with distinction before, I would have asked her to resign.
People should be held accountable for their mistakes. A thirty day vacation from a non-paying post ain’t accountability.
It’s a shame. This could have been handled so much better.
Repeatedly. Trainwreckmod had urged posters not to do so, and stated that they would delete any such posts. TWM deleted several posts over the course of the next few hours. Last I saw, it appeared that TWM was offline and two recent post gave TubaDiva’s full name, address and phone number.
Since the original problem was the posting of personal information on LiveJournal, I suspect anonymous sees it as tit for tat. I don’t feel posting Tubadiva’s personal information servces any purpose other than annoying Trainwreckmod.
:smack: I can’t believe I didn’t think of that. I can only stand on my reputation and ask you to believe that such was not my intention. Again, I don’t feel violating Tubadiva’s privacy serves any purpose. I know I can count on those Dopers who know me offline to support that my post was a case of me once again stupidly putting my foot in my mouth rather than acting out of malice.
