But once more for clarity: I DID NOT SAY YOU SHOULD APOLOGIZE FOR LYING, YOU INSANE PERSON WITH AN ENORMOUS BUG ON A STICK UP YOUR ASS. I said a mature, reasonable person would simply say that they had not been lying, and had not intended to come off aggressively. The apology would be an acknowledgement that perhaps over the net, especially when dealing with people one has had problems with in the past, one should take great care not to be misunderstood, and that such care was not taken. The reason to make such an apology, even if one were not entirely certain one had made a mistake, was so that we can all live in a civilized society where nasty grade-school behavior only fucks things up for everybody about a third of the time instead of all of the time.
I guess you are part of the problem after all, and I see what everybody means about you, if you’re really that full of Holy Righteous Fire that you think your pride is more important than avoiding drama and strife.

I do apologize for that remark (even hinting it). I knew better, as I mentioned, but I hinted around, which I also knew better than to do. I do think that catsix goes out of her way to cause drama… so troublemaker is probably a better term.

I used troublemaker intentionally first (and I should have known better than to let teasing on my terminology get to me). And I do stick by that assessment. You accused the staff, TubaDiva basically, of promising us upgrades, then reneging on them, then saying they told us that they never promised such a thing. So, in essence, you called the whole staff liars. Tuba called you on it and said that your words were dishonest. You feel you should get an apology for being called a liar, after you called Tuba a liar. I think that if you wanted to be proved not to be a liar, you should show where your words were truthful.
If you cannot do this, I’d say you owed the whole staff apologies for calling them liars… after all, calling someone a liar started this whole thing.
I remember them saying that they werwe looking into this or that… but as far as I remember, never said we were getting them, much less promising them to us.
This was done in the original thread. Someone posted a cite to back up catsix’s claim immediately after Tuba accused her of lying. Hence, why so many feel catsix is owed an apology - she was not lying.

I inteded exactly what I said when I asked those questions. There’s absolutely no way that I would apologize for not being more careful about being understood, since I don’t do that touchy-feely crap. I did intend for the questions to be blunt. I see absolutely nothing wrong with asking direct, pointed questions of someone who represents a business, specifically when that business has made and not kept promises in the past.

I suspect you didn’t actually read the questions I asked of TubaDiva to get branded a liar. I didn’t call her names, didn’t throw any insults. I was direct and firm, which apparently only means ‘bitch’ if it comes from me.
I was proven not a liar. Pretty damn quickly, actually, by other posters who copied posts from members of the administrationm Ed Zotti to name one.
You can like me, you can hate me, but in this case I didn’t do a damn thing that was dishonest or against the rules. My opinion that the response I got would’ve at least gotten a mod warning had TubaDiva the word ‘member’ under her name rather than ‘admin’ stands.
Translation: catsix’s pride is in fact the most important thing in this entire situation. If it weren’t, she would be willing to suck it up, because that’s what adults do. But her Pride has been Offended and she Had Every Right and so on. I have been extremely clear that I don’t think she was lying or rude, and still the bug on the stick up her ass continues to natter away at me about how she wasn’t lying or rude. She just cannot imagine what I’m saying, I guess: that maybe a drama-free life is worth an occasional standing-down of the Imperial Pride Guard.
Nope. Wrong! What started this whole “thing” was TubaDiva’s choice to make a hijack post in the DrMark2000 banned! thread. People were in a pissy mood discussing the termination of an alleged troll’s account and Tuba dropped in to challenge Aeschines’ prediction of the SDMB’s future demise.
I think we can all agree on one fact: Announcing "There’s more better stuff coming 'round the bend, too. Can’t give you details…" did not belong in the DrMark2K Pit discussion. Whatever the intention of posting this quasi-promise; it belonged in ATMB - not as ammunition in a BBQ Pit cockfight with Aeschines.
I have to also assume most reasonable people might also agree: The entire staff of the SDMB should refrain from these silly, stealthily worded promises of future improvements. Because I’m sorry folks - you can’t keep employing this tired old tactic ‘just you wait and see’ and then falling back on the ‘well, we weren’t specific about our announcement, so shut the fuck up’. In my book, that’s having your cake and eating it too. Nothing short of smoke & mirrors or bait-n-switch.
Basing this on my own experiences, I also have to assume there are members who could give a rat’s ass about smileys, buddy lists and added VB features. They want to drop by, read a few threads, and maybe post a thought or two without the server timing out.
These vague promises are the root cause of this most recent brush fire. All they seem to do is irk paid subscribers and erode your credibility.
If you set a new policy restricting the serving of (warm) pie-in-the-sky, there won’t be the need to challenge complaints with
- Pig-headed retorts like ‘don’t let the door hit you in the ass’
- Incorrect accusations of lying and stirring shit,
- The making of thinly-veiled threats
- The outright ignoring of your customer base.

If catsix hadn’t challenged TubaDiva, do you think every member who read her announcement would’ve held hands, sang Kumbaya and thanked the administration? That’s inconceivable in my opinion and I’d lay 200:1 someone else would’ve challenged her. They might not have been as rude - or blunt as catsix…but like she’s already admitted, she peppers her posts with a little piss and vinegar.
Make believe someone more even-tempered and reasonable; live RevTim, posted the initial challenge to TubaDiva. What direction do you think this small controversy would’ve went in?The same direction? Well that would confirm accusations of blind loyalty, apple polishing and ‘my board - right or wrong’ sentiments.
A more ‘friendly & productive’ course? That confirms there are some people who are shooting the messenger instead looking at the issue at hand.

I know you’re not. I made a heartfelt plea to reason and civility, and your response was “but I shouldn’t hafta because SHE started it”. Or in other words “But I wanna fight about it instead!” This ‘oh, I just happen to be wandering by, I’m not being contentious at all’ bullshit doesn’t fit well with your claims to be a straight shooter. I believe if nobody started a fight about it, you wouldn’t push it, but that’s not necessarily because you’re above all that.
Well, okay. There are things I believe strongly in that I fight for when other people think I should just give it a rest, so I can empathize with that. It’s this attempt to ennoble your position by turning you into some kind of matyr by mod that I object most strongly to. I know you didn’t start it…but you’ve done nothing to stop it, and in fact you’ve encouraged it.
