Cranberries in a can are yucky. Real cranberries cooked with sugar, sometime orange juice are great.
The plan is to have a fork with cranberries, stuffing and bird.
Bumba, glad you didn’t hit anything important… Happy you’re ok.
Afternoon all. Spent most of the day riding around, wanted to go to the Zoo and the Science Center, they were both open, but you had to make reservations to visit…oops. So explored some old back roads and shops, stopped at a couple casinos (but they had a $15 minimum bet limit on Blackjack and call me and old fuddy, but that’s a bit to rich for my blood). And then made the Oscar Meyer Braunsweiger run, had to stop at a couple of stores but but now have 16 tubes that should last me until the first of March. Also filled my gas tank, 540 miles on 22.3 gallons–pretty good highway mileage for a big ol’SUV.
So now upstairs as the kids (all in their 20’s) want to watch a horror movie and I’m just not into gore and scares. YMMV
Buying dinner somewhere for everyone later tonight, then early to bed for an 8am departure East and South.
Lady SCAdian’s description of genuine authentic homemade Irish stew: Cut meat, potatoes, onions and potatoes into chunks, put them in a pot of water, and boil until you can’t tell which chunks are which…
We don’t bother slicing the cranberry sauce – just decant it onto a plate and take a spoonful or two, as desired. Leftover sauce gets saved for Thanksgiving sandwiches or, if there’s not enough left for that, simply gets eaten.
Actually, I would admit to having also fallen the other day, but I don’t have video, either. My left arm is all scraped up, though. Third or fourth time I’ve done this in the last few weeks – I’ll be walking along and stop, or turn to go around a corner, but while my feet cooperate my upper body decides to follow Newton and continue moving in a straight line at a steady speed. Which, of course, rapidly turns into a downward arc…
Howdy Y’all! Been a day of much laziness. It has rained off and on, so good day to be inside and dry. We et up the last of the leftovers. Go Us!
Butters Happy Dopiversary! Did you see the piece of cake beside your name?
Bumba Yikes! Glad you’re OK.
I make that same turkey sammich. 'Tis soooooo good! Sometimes I go wild and toast the bread.
I like the canned cranberry sauce. As other’s have said, it’s a condiment and to be mixed in with the dressin’ and gravy so you get some of each on your fork. It’s a craft that takes years of practice to hone.
I have a friend who sometimes calls me when she’s drunk. I hate it when she does that. She just did. She’s 68, lives alone, has big financial stresses, health problems. Plenty of excuses to drink. Having lived with an alcoholic and having gone to alanon back in the day, I’ve learned that I can say, “I can’t talk to you when you’re drunk. Let’s talk another time,” and then sign off. Which I did. Did it hurt her feelings or piss her off. Tough titties.
When BOTH of you are drunk, it’s one thing. But when only one of you is, whether on the phone or in person-- it’s 100% yuck. There was a time in the early 80s when I was drunk most evenings. Everybody I knew drank A LOT. Even at lunchtime. I didn’t call people when I was drunk. I drank alone because my singleminded goal was to get drunk. I don’t drink at all any more-- maybe a small glass of boozy eggnog in the season. No desire to and no desire to be around it. I do not like being around or talking to people when they’re drunk.
I actually have a nice bruise on my hip bone (iliac crest) that hurts when I walk, but I’m otherwise pretty ok. The bump on my head is mostly gone now.
I tried being a drunk once, for about 6 months, when I was in the navy, but I must not have done it right 'cause when I quit I had no desire to take it up again.
Nowadays I drink 'cause I like the taste, and I don’t drink very much.
There was much laziness here also. The wimminfolk went looking for a place that was for sale. A house on acreage. They, (the Daughter and SIL) want to buy a place over here for when they retire, which isn’t too far off.
(You know you’re old when your kids start talking about retirement.)
I didn’t go 'cause it still hurts to walk. (Actually, it hurts to walk all the time, but it hurts even more right now.)
They found it but didn’t like it, but had a fun time anyway.
Homemade chickie noodle soup for dinner tonight. Wifey is making noodles right now.
I actually saw some Braunsweiger in the Safeway store in The Dalles the other day. I pointed it out to Wifey, but she wasn’t at all tempted. I used to eat it when I was an impoverished student, and before I found out I had gout.
This is turning into a stream-of-conscientiousness thing, so I think I’d better quit.
Found out that a 6qt Instant Pot could be had for $49 (half the usual price) by ordering it from Walmart, so pulled the trigger on that. My new toy should arrive Dec. 7. Gotta study up on it in the meantime.
Speaking of currently trendy cookware, I’ve never seen an air fryer in action, so I’m not quite sure how it differs from baking/broiling. Could someone enlighten me, please?
Wound up taking an afternoon nap, might possibly be feeling a little better. Gotta get stuff done tomorrow, but if I’m still feeling too ugh, DH can run a couple of errands without me. Nothing that should be too hard on his bad leg, and he’s an otherwise functional adult, so it should be feasible for him to do some stuff on his own and let me get some extra rest.
So yesterday’s volume was pretty normal, so The Powers That Be(A division of TVCTPMO) decided to move all the package cars around. Us sorters were confused. The drivers were confused. I worked midnight shift as well, came home and went back 2 hours later for my regular sort. Then second sort, which was delayed till 10. And was apparently sorted onto the belt by sloths. Then I had to load a trailer. Then help the 100 slide finish their 2nd sort. After working 10 out of 13 hours, I came home, walked Gordie(boy has bladder muscles of steel), did laundry and napped. And Imma gonna work tomorrow too, since apparently if you work 7+ days it turns into double time at some point.(Supervisor young enough to be my daughter: I wish I had your energy!)
This is how it should be.
Bumba and Herald. Ouch!
It is good. It is tradition. This is the hill I will die on.
bumba and herald, I hope that you don’t wake up more sore than you are now.
Laundry is done, save for folding the last load, 2/3 of the Xmas cards are addressed (waiting for seasonal stamps to arrive from the USPO) and a two hour romp at the dog park was had. The same buddies from yesterday were there, along with the mini Aussie littermates, Milo and Remy and a few other puppers. Nelson burned off a lot of energy.
I ordered Chinese takeout and that has been consumed. After I open da Jungle package that was on my stoop when I got back from picking up supper (they delivered at 6 o’clock on a Saturday), I’ll complete addressing cards.
I had to call my son this morning because I couldn’t get my bluetooth earbuds to pair with my laptop. I knew HOW, just couldn’t get it to work, and I’d tried turning things off, restarting, etc. He had me restart the earbuds one more time, and presto! The only difference was that he was on the line. Yet more proof my devices love my son.
I’m trying to figure out what I’m going to do on Monday. My train gets into Seattle three hours before I can check in at my hotel. I can’t hang at restaurants or museums due to COVID restrictions. The Amtrak station won’t let people linger there. I really don’t want to walk around with my roller bag for three hours. It wasn’t any fun last time, and I got exhausted. Also, it’s going to rain. I guess I’ll try calling the hotel tomorrow, but if I can’t hang there, where do I go?
I’m going to pretend you didn’t say that. [Shudder]
No more falls, people. We need everyone to be whole and healthy around here.
My mom makes cranberry sauce. First she boils the cranberries, I think with sugar and water, and then puts the cranberries through a ricer to get ride of the skins. Then she adds orange gelatin and lets the sauce set up overnight.
It is served with sweetened whipped cream and it is expected to go on your bread plate, so it is eaten with the meal.
Me being the orney daughter that I am, I boil cranberries, sugar and water and then add orange marnier after it’s done cooking. I eat it as a snack/dessert.
And now I want cranberries.
And maybe tomorrow I’ll get pineapple on pizza. Actually, probably will get sushi, but it’s definitely one of the options.
Still have low clouds and the temperature is just above freezing. Later in the week there’s supposed to be some rain to join the fun. At least we’re home that day. We don’t even have any appointments.
Should get out the Christmas decorations today. We’ll start small, and at least light some candles in the window this evening.
Enjoy your Sunday and stay safe! Especially those of you who already have banged-up heads and elbows.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 58 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 64 and rain for the day. We shall see. It was supposed to rain most of yestiddy, but ended up bein’ off and on and then finally off. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization. We shall attend the ten o’ clock service just cause. For those keepin’ score, today is the First Sunday of Advent and thus the start of the new Liturgical year. So one could say this is New Year’s Day. I shall get a pot roast started in the slow cooker in a bit. So that, cooked with carrots and N.O.T., of course, baby lima beans and cornbread muffins shall be sup.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.
Woke at 2, messed around with my tablet till 4-ish, then fell back to sleep till a bit after 7. I count that as a win of sorts. It was 31° when I let Higgs out - she didn’t dawdle this morning. It’s supposed to get into the upper 50s, so as it warms, I’ll force myself to tend to the leaves as I should have yesterday.
FCD has decided it’s time for him to shed poundage and he thinks intermittent fasting will be the easiest for him to stick to. So starting today, we (since I’m nice and I want to help him, dammit) will restrict food intake to the hours of 9:30-5:30. The plan is for a good-sized brunch, a mini-meal around 1, and a more or less normal supper at 5. It will be an adjustment for me because I’m used to eating as soon as I get up. Fortunately, non-calorie beverages are permitted during the fast - I foresee lots of tea drinking. So we’ll see how it goes.
Roxy’s easel was delivered yesterday - we need to assemble it and hide it till Christmas. We’ll take it to Daughter’s house (she wants to do Christmas morning there) then bring it here for Roxy to use. It’s got a place to hang a roll of drawing paper - I ordered that last night, along with a couple of outfits for her. She’s growing so fast!!
I’m with you other falling geezers - from my adventure in falling off Roxy’s play tower earlier this year, if I sit in one place too long, my butt starts aching. That was the worst part of the drive to and from FL. Should a bruise hurt that long? I need to remember to ask the Dr about it next time I need to talk to her. Meanwhile, let’s all stay more or less upright, 'k??
I missed the cake dammit. But I know I’ve been here since 2010 so 10 years. Dang where does the time go?
I awoke early this morning around 6, took care of the cat and walked the dog. Not much planned for today other than a little cleaning. Need to clear out the fridge of all leftovers. I am done with it all. The maid is only coming every two weeks now and I will likely have her stop coming at all. That’s an expense I can do without. I can keep my own house. It will be a walk in the park with just me. I am not near as messy as hubs was.
Afternoon, mumpers! Finally stopped raining over here so that’s a good thing. I need to get out of the house so I’m going to get some lunch and then go for a walk round the local park. I can put some music on and have a wander round where there are trees and plants and some wildlife which makes a change from these walls and a couple of elderly mogs who think they’ve had a tough day if they’re awake for more than a couple of hours.
