Since you started by trashing someone in the pit and are claiming it was done in the spirit of the golden rule, are we then to assume you wanted to be trashed too - you know the “as you would have them do to you” part of the rule? I don’t think that is what you mean, since you have taken umbrage at the trashing you’ve been given.
My sister has a friend whos name is Usama. He’s Pakistani and has an olive complexion. He worked with her at a prveious job which put them both in direct contact with the public a lot of the time. After September 11, poor Usama who has no relation to and no love at all for Usama Bin Laden was accosted on numerous occasions, apparently beause the name on his ID tag. This kid had absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with any terrorism, left Pakistan and much of his family knowing he could not ever return because he wanted a good education and a better life, and he got shit on to the point that he went to his boss and asked for a new ID to wear to work.
He had to change his ID badge to ‘Juan’ because people got so immediately uptight over his name. That just ain’t right. I agree with you, Barbarian. We should find out what someone’s all about before we jump in their shit.

Ditto ditto. Maybe this is a time to point out that “Usama” is a very treasured name among Muslims, literally meaning “lion” (like the names "Leo"and “Ari”) and commemorating the beloved friend of the Prophet Muhammad, Usama ibn Zaid. (In a real mind-bender, at least one gay Muslim group suggests that Usama may have been involved in a homoerotic friendship, though not necessarily a sexual relationship, with the Prophet—sorta David-and-Jonathan thing.)
Of course, as I said, it’s perfectly possible that our new member USAMA could turn out in fact to be a terrorist-loving troll, in which case there will be ample time to tear him apart for it in the Pit. Imagine, if that turned out to be the case, and if grienspace had only waited for actual evidence before launching his attack, he could have had everyone here Pitting with him instead of Pitting at him. Tragic, really.

All joking aside, grienspace shouldn’t be put into Coventry over this. Tomndebb was right about another thing: grienspace is far above the run of sockish-trolls-for-kicks. He just got carried away. The point of a warning is more to guide somebody toward posting well, not driving him (default pronoun) away. This thread wasn’t a good idea but it wasn’t a cardinal sin either. It shouldn’t be made so vitriolic that he can’t gather himself and come back if he wants.
