To those few remaining mods who continue to use “TWEEEEEET!!!” as a way to get people’s attention like a 4th grade gym teacher with a whistle hanging around their neck, please stop. It’s retarded and ridiculous and it makes you look like a fool.
Actually, I find it much less offensive than “Knock it off.” What makes you think that only fourth grade referees use whistles? Ever watch pro sports?
We may not all be youngsters here, but some of us are probably old enough to be the grandparents of some of the mods. It seems less personal than some kid talking like a heavy.
I use various all-caps exclamations to get attention to a moderator comment. I use TWEET for a whistle and BANG! for a gavel and WHOA! and various others. Your “4th grade gym teacher” was not what I had in mind, I don’t feel like I’m dealing with anyone at that high an education level or maturity as 4th graders. I use it because it reminds me of a kindergarden teacher trying to get the little monsters’ attention. I usually use it when there’s a name-calling free-for-all, with several posters (who have been around a long time and should know better) indulging in personal insults. So, yes, it’s deliberate. And it’s going to continue.
It seems more attention-getting than “Mod Hat On.” Anything in all upper case does attract attention, however annoying it is to you. And the goal is to attract attention.
On a second level, I have a cousin whose son is autistic, and the word “retarded” does not win you any friends, leander.
That’s sad. Because you diminish yourself and the people you’re addressing when you “TWEET” your little whistle.
As I said, it’s retarded and you look like a fool. And you will continue to look like a fool so long as you act like “a kindergarden teacher trying to get the little monsters’ attention” (in your own words).
No problem. I hope you don’t mind if I remind people that you consider yourself a “kindergarden teacher trying to get the little monsters’ attention” every time you “TWEEET!!!”.
I’m sure they’ll be happy to know how you look down on them. Dopers love that.
leander: your first post used terms describing my actions. They are terms (like “retarded”) that are insensitive and offensive, but you were carefully describing my moderating actions and not me. However, you are now insulting another poster by describing me rather than my actions or opinions. This is against the rules in ATMB.
PS - The aboveI don’t feel the need to attract your attention, since you are posting and watching this. Hence, no need for caps, or “Mod Hat On” or any other such designation.
PPS - If you follow me around to cite something every time I use some attention-getting device, that’s stalking and will be Officially Warned. Just sayin’.
PPPS - So far, you’re the only one who seems to care.
