The cashier is within her rights to ask the customer to leave, call a manager, or call the police. The manager may also ask the customer to leave, or call the police. Even so, the manager is expected to act professionally. No swearing matches with the customer.

Twicks had every right to act in that thread. I would not have objected had she issued a warning. I do not object to the action she actually took. I do object to the manner in which she took that action. Specifically to her saying “Don’t pull this shit in MPSIMS”. She doesn’t need to say that to enforce the rules. It’s extraneous, and adds no value to her ruling.

A better analogy than a grocery store clerk is the bartender at a rowdy bar. Would you blink an eye if a bartender wanted to stop some over the top behavior by yelling “take that shit outta my bar!”.

I object to a moderator saying, in her official capacity, “don’t pull this shit”. In my view, that is unprofessional and inappropriate. The more common “don’t do this again” or preferably, the more polite “please don’t do this again”, or some other, non-cursing variant thereof is fine. Moderators should not swear at posters.

Oh, come off it. To tell someone not to pull shit is the same as telling them to cut the crap, desist from what they’re doing, and so on. It isn’t the same as swearing at someone.

Dopers were under the correct assumption that moderators weren’t around to fart rainbows or change your diaper, and that acting like an idiot would have you treated as such by TPTB. I don’t write the rules, so I didn’t write that rule, but I find it a bit pointless anyway. However, twickster’s comment was dealing with Happy Scrappy Hero Pup’s posting – not attacking HSHP personally, which “motherfucker” or “fuck you” are doing.

I don’t think it’s profane in the context of the SDMB. I don’t object to such language but I rarely use it myself. As a moderator, I would consider it far worse for me to dismiss a poster’s legitimate gripe as “whining” simply because I didn’t want to address it.

The SDMB absolutely was at one point, but the influx of the Offenderati and the Marching Panty Waists has slowly chipped away at that.

I personally only use such strong words when I’m EXTREMELY annoyed. In this particular instance, it was a light-hearted li’l reminder, hence no, I wouldn’t have used such strong language. But that’s me. Different linguistic strokes for different folks.
