They have to cling to being allowed to say shit because they can’t say cunt or fuck you.
Well, ain’t you extra spicy today.
If the intention is to actually “moderate” discussions, I wouldn’t think that she would accomplish that by flinging shit around. But if she wants to keep people agitated, that’s a good way to do it in some cultures.
Educational psychology frowns on using that sort of technique in getting things settled down and smoothed out. But who knows if that’s her purpose?
Whether or not it should have been said, I think that it reflects on the character of the person saying it. As evidenced by the vast majority of responses here, most people don’t have a problem with it. But there must be a reason why all (?) of the other mods don’t choose to use words like that.
I’ve had a few reports about this post. It is a bit over the top for ATMB. Please dial it back, mkay?

Well, I miss manhattan too, and I don’t care who knows it!
Or was it because she said the D word? Now I’m confused again.
Fiddlesticks!

Different circumstances. Oakminster is complaining about twickster using that phrase while moderating. The title of this thread is using the phrase to show what the topic of conversation is about, i.e. the use of that phrase. Not equivalent at all.
I have a problem with that statement, but it’s not really the “shit” part. It wouldn’t be my preference except in extreme circumstances, but I don’t have that bit an issue with the “shit”.
My complaint is that the phrase has a poorly defined antecedent to “this shit”, so much so that several people didn’t know what the complaint was. I really wish mods wouldn’t use phrases like “Don’t do this again” unless they have just previously defined “this” explicitly, like “You are calling out another poster for comments they made in another thread that you disagree with - do not do this shit again.”

The OP is not the person on the receiving end of that comment.

The issue is about potential board policy, not a personal comment to that specific mod. Ergo, an ATMB open discussion is appropriate.
I wonder if the OP and others who objected to the language would have done so if a different mod had said it. Seems to me that Twicks’ remarks get a lot closer reading than some others’.
From what I know about Oakminster, I think he would have that issue no matter who said it. His complaint is about the tone, not the moderator.
You forgot to add “and shit”.
Yeah, seems like certain people, and it’s almost always the same ones, just get soooooo involved in the particulars of moderator action. I’d say that unless it’s a warning, and something that might get you booted off the board, what’s the big fucking deal?
I don’t know why they keep pulling this shit over and over…
It should be obvious. Twicks gets greater scrutiny specifically because she uses an abrasive tone consistently, and has already made two moderating decisions that had to be reversed by the management. You’d assume that said person would be more careful.
If one of the other mods had said it, I’m sure no one would have cared for the simple reason that they don’t do it all the time. The one mod that did, Czarcasm, did get the same treatment when he was moderating.
I personally have no problem with the “shit” thing. It’s just a word. But twicks did just make light in the thread I made to try and help people. After being shown that her language was pissing people off, she continues to use it. That does not say good things about her intentions.
It’s basic. She’s being mean to people, so they’re being mean back. If it bothers her, she can quit with the inflammatory tone. IN generaly, be nice to people, and they will be nice to you.
Absolutely right. I don’t have any personal beef with Twicks. I object to any mod doing what she did in this instance.
