Two Threads in two days locked due to the Dio Show

I agreed with Dio that a 25 dating a 17 year is always creepy, but you don’t hear anybody say, “Oh no, it’s the Chimp Show!” It’s not his contrary opinions that are the problem!

Oh bullshit. You can’t think of a single possible rule that Dio might possibly have run aground on? Did those two (and countless others in the past) get closed for no reason whatsoever? If threads are constantly getting closed when drama surrounds one particular poster, then SOMETHING is happening. Get your head out of the sand.

Poster A: It’s the Dio Show!
Czarcasm: Poster A - do not do this again. It is against Pit Rules to troll* or harass** posters.

I also thought it was against the rules for popcorn/lawnchair posts, and/or “let’s you and him fight” posts, but I couldn’t find the specific ruling. Either way, those would be applicable as well. And, you’d get to do two of your favorite things - unequivocally support Dio AND issue a random and capricious ruling! Win/win (for you).

*No trolling. By trolling, we mean posting of inflammatory comments solely to get a rise out of people. If we feel your primary goal as a poster is to make people mad, you’ll quickly find yourself on the road to banning. On the flip side, the fact that a poster consistently makes you mad doesn’t automatically make them a troll.

**No harassment of other posters If you have a quarrel with a poster in a particular thread, fine. If you follow that poster from thread to thread and attempt to pick fights, that’s harassment and may get you warned or banned.

To be honest I DIDN’T see what you did there

Heck, consider it Darwinian evolution of the board. The absolute worst jerk is always the target and eventually gets taken care of. Given there are thousands of posters and it takes decades for Dio types to “leave”, I don’t think you’ll run outa “customers” anytime soon.

I agree with Czarcasm 100%.

If you think I’m breaking a rule, report me.

People have said over and over again in this thread that you’ve broken the don’t be a jerk rule.

And if you “report” him, its because a Dio show is likely going on. And they lock it. Problem solved!

Your best hope is to get some decent discussion in before the thread is locked. And I STILL haven’t got any decent input on how you are supposed to continue a serious discusion elsewhere when a Dio show is developing or has developed and the thread is lock. At best some tangential tap dancing about it…

“Don’t be a jerk” is kind of a dumb rule if “jerk” isn’t defined. What is a jerk? Someone who insults other posters outside the pit? Someone who brings a racist agenda into every thread? I don’t believe that someone who disagrees with the majority of posters in an opinion thread and doesn’t provide cites for opinions is a jerk. “Don’t be a jerk” shouldn’t be used to punish unpopular opinions in opinion threads.

If that’s what you believe, report me.

OK, I admit that I’ve not made a study of Dio’s posting patterns – and I am totally open to being shown I am wrong – but here is what I have seen:

Yes, Dio repeatedly reiterates his position, often in four or five word posts. This seems to be a major point of annoyance for some.

But…he does this only in response to repetitive inquiries or challenges to his position. He responds to each attack, and there are many.

He is allowed his opinion. Many accusations of his jerkishness – re-stating his position over and over – are misguided; he would not have to re-state so much if he weren’t re-challenged so much.
mmm

I don’t believe that. It’s a fact. Billfish678, JohnDiFool, Cat Whisperer, and myself have said you are breaking the don’t be jerk rule. But I don’t see the point in reporting you. Other long time posters have been banned for one instance, while you have a long history of being a jerk. Apparently you are immune.

Wow. Very well put. That’s how I’ve always seen it and you put it perfectly.

The “Dio Show” is BS. It seems that some people are salivating with anticipation for him to make a post that is deemed controversial/over the top so they can rush in to shout “DIO SHOW DIO SHOW” and proceed for pages questioning him and then bitching that he’s derailing the thread.

It’s bizarre

One of the complaints lodged against Dio is that he states opinions as fact. Now we have the highly subjective “he’s a jerk” stated as fact.

When Invisible Chimp repeats his opinion over and over here without any further explaination besides “I’m right!!!” to the point of derailing the thread here you might have a point. Though I guess the powers that be might lock this thread anyway and it will be the first and most glorious version of the Chimp Show. I’ll send you some internet pie Chimp to make up for it.

Again, go find the latest pit thread against him. Plenty of good descriptions of what the Dio show really is. It has no equal. And, IMO it has no place here on the SDMB.

All you’re doing in this thread is repeating your opinion ad nauseam as fact.

Annoying, isn’t it?

No it isnt.

But the point has already been made that “I’m right” is in response to those who repeat over and over “no you’re not”. The “no you’re nots” are not just equally responsible but even more so, imo.

See billfish, you and I have been doing the same thing in this thread that Dio is being accused of. We both have stated our thoughts about this, yet neither of us has let the topic drop. I don’t think you’re a jerk for having a different view about this than I, nor should you be deemed one for continuing to disagree. It would be ridiculous for me to think you a jerk for continuing to stubbornly argue when I am guilty of the very same thing. This same logic should apply to Dio - or any other poster. Basically all of those who continue to argue.
