Two Threads in two days locked due to the Dio Show

Okay, I think I found the Dio pitting that has some well thought out analysis regarding the Dio Show by what I’d consider some serious and insightful posters (of course there is a bunch of pit/snark type stuff in there too). It will take any new person awhile to wallow through it all.

And of course it wasn’t the LATEST pitting, this one was back in February. He’s had a yet another rather lame pitting about a month ago since then.

Except for a few things.

I (and others) explain/reexplain ourselves.

We actually have some analysis involved.

We don’t shotgun reply every damn post anybody makes with the same shit repeated over and over.

And probably a dozen other differences I am too lazy to list right now.

Don’t worry though, this thread will be locked soon. Of that I have little doubt.

Not to me. I don’t care. I’m just pointing out that you’re doing exactly what you accuse me of doing.

See billfish’s post above for why it’s different.

I don’t accept his characterization of how I post.

so yeah, like I said, this is a very fruitful avenue of attack.

Nobody else posts like Dio, ever.

Here we go with the Auto show.

Hey, you chillins get of my lawn, get up on the porch swing and let Paw Paw Fish tells yous alls a story or two. Paw Paw Fish has been doing some mullin and tinkin bout things. For you whipper snappers here, thats what you did before the tv, the cable, the phone, the internet, the tweeting and whatever the heck it is all you all do these days. You just ran things over in your mind.

First story. Paw Fish was once a young lad in high school then college (yes, it is true). He was a member of a club. Full of generally interesting and nice people. There was another young man in the club. Also a generally nice and well meaning person. But he had one problem. He was a constant problem at club meetings. The meeting usually had a formal business part regarding minutes and finances and what not. Then there would be bit of “what we did last month” and a bit of “what we plan for next month”. After that a presentation at least somewhat related to the clubs interest. This other young man constantly interupted. Asked really stupid questions. Made absurd or inappropriate comments on a regular basis. Now Paw Fish realized it was a problem but wasn’t socially savy enough at the time to know what to do. Now, the other more mature adults were. But they really didnt do anything. It just festered and festered and finally the poor young lad was asked (and his parents were told this too) to never come back. Rather than control the lad, he was basically banned. Paw Fish thought this was a bit much but didn’t know what to do. The poor kid killed himself shortly after. That club was apparently the only outlet he had. Turns out he had serious mental issues. But no adults could be bothered to deal with it in a better fashion than waiting until it reached a boiling point.

Fast forward decades. Paw Fish is in another club. This club has dog issues. One member is a complete jerk when it comes to controlling their dog on trips. Many complaints are made. Finally rules are enacted which are not enforced. The member continues to be a problem. And their excuse is always stuff like “I did not”, “thats not fair, others do it too”, “I just wish someone had said something” and so on and so on. Of course it was complete crap. And pretty much nothing was done besides some token measures. Finally it reaches a head and there is a big political shitstorm. Things were not resolved in even a remotely nice fashion. For that matter they weren’t even resolved. That member still continues to bring dogs and cause problems. And, because of this the club split, the majority of the more active and productive members of the club said bump this shit and left. Now what’s left of the original club is struggling to plan and execute trips, while the tired of the BS club members have moved on to greener pastures.

I’ll let you youngsters draw any lessons and parallels you think are appropriate.

That’s a good point, and it is also within the moderators’ abilities to fix - as in the post below:

That might actually work - sends a warning shot over everyone’s bows to not go down that stupid path again.

Dude, it’s the internet. Don’t die on this hill.

Someone has obviously hacked billfish’es account. Reported.

You. Just. Don’t. Get. It.

How do you know we haven’t?

Call it thread-shitting and suspend him.

See (my) post # 151. This is exactly what I’m talking about.
mmm

There is very obviously a Dio Show. And, really part of it is his fault. Because, sometimes his posts seem sort of thoughtless. I mean, literally without thought, just a visceral reaction. He gives his first visceral reaction In a thread about frogs he might say “Turtles only eat lettuce!” And, then can’t be moved from this no matter what anyone says. Yet, people keep saying “Turtles also eat cabbage!!!” So, yeah, he gets dug in and doesn’t move. BUT everyone keeps hollering at him. And, really the only losers are those of us on the outside that don’t care after the first rebuttal as to what turtles eat, and just want to talk about ribbits.

So. Yes. You are wrong there is a Dio show. And, no I don’t really think he is breaking any rules. Neither is the other side. Yet. People like to argue with him. And, he likes to yap back. And it goes on.
I have no problem people saying Dio Show in the middle of the thread. I don’t think that is just a statement on him, but on the people blathering at him. I equate “It’s the Dio Show” to “Shut up and Move ON, everyone”
Although, thanks, Dio, for avoiding the show in that thread about immigrants becoming president.

That’s not the Dio Show. That’s his defensive posture once it begins. The Dio Show involves a tremendous amount of goalpost movement, redefining the argument, and defending extreme viewpoints after they’ve been shown to be wrong (hell, he won’t even admit an extreme viewpoint is extreme, or could possibly be questioned).

Why the hell should we thank him for doing something a reasonable person would see as obvious?

There is no such thing as the Auto show.

Reply to Munch:

So you’re unable to change his mind even after you’ve shown him he’s wrong and that his viewpoint is extreme. He’s not allowed to respond after he’s piled on? You can’t censor like that, even if everyone agrees he’s wrong. Just accept that he’s sticking to his opinion and move along.
