Two Towers protest

Check out: http://www.twotowersprotest.org

I remember when this was a petition on petitiononline.com, and thought for sure it was just a joke at that time. But it seems to have lasted a lot longer than a joke of this type ought to have.

Very very very very silly, if true.

The WTC was never referred to as “The Two Towers.” If not WTC, then people said The Twin towers. There is no connection between the names.

Besides, that was the name of the second book, and the movie was in the can long before 9/11 anyway.

Gimme a freakin’ break! New Line is not in any way trying to cash in on the WTC! That web site is the stupidest waste of bandwidth I’ve ever seen.

All… your… towers… are… belong… to… us!!!

In the F.A.Q. section, they accuse Peter Jackson and New Line of “hate speech” for intentionally naming the movie “The Two Towers” in order to capitalize on September 11, but they also claim that members of their organization are fans of Tolkein. Isn’t this a little contradictory? Wouldn’t fans of Tolkein know that Peter Jackson and New Line aren’t responsible for the name of the movie? And yes, “The Two Towers” and “Twin Towers” aren’t the same thing.

Nobody is that stupid.
It’s a bad joke.

what a waste of time

The whole thing seems blatantly bogus to me. We should check up on the registrar.

Ahh, if only that were true… I’d say it’s extremely possible this two towers protest is genuine, because there ARE people who far exceed the minimum stupidity requirement for such a thing. Especially when emotional things like Sept 11 are involved.

I think it’s likely to be a hoax, expecially since this exact same hoax has been seen before, but there are certainly people stupid enough to believe that they named the movie after the tragedy.

Also interesting to note that their online petition:

a) has been suspensed due to lack of maintenance by the originators (whatever that means),

b) has had a caveat added by petitiononline.com to the effect that they feel there is no basis to the claim that movie’s title and WTC attacks have anything in common,

c) has had most of the signatures on the petition removed as being false and thus void, and…

d) that most of the “signatories” are actually telling them that their petition is ridiculous.

I found Aaron Wilson’s homepage and found out he really is friends with the guy who started the petition, and I’m sure the petition is a piss-take because anyone who claims to be a Tolkein fan and says “The title is clearly meant to refer to the attacks on the World Trade Center” has got to be kidding.

Incidentally, Mr. Wilson also has a 10-minute-long video clip on his site, which is labeled “Author: Aaron Wilson” and copyrighted less than a month ago, that shows someone torturing a slug to death with an Aim-n-Flame while music like “Ring of Fire” plays in the background. So I don’t think he’s exactly interested in “sensitivity” like the Two Towers site claims.

I’m pretty convinced it’s a send up.

The petition owner, Kevin Klerck, has a web site where he’s storing some of the mail he’s been sent:
Directory of Letters
Particulary good are the ones all in capitals… but the best is from petitiononline.com (which also explains why the petition has been suspended), and contain the priceless comment that “of the 1066 signatures received by 4PM today, 1028 were invalid. Mostly, the bogus signatures are from people who do not agree with your petition”. ROTFLMAO

This guy is a waste of phlem. i say gut him like a fish, but keep his mouth intact because the manure that comes out will turn the Sahara desert into a new fertile cresent.
