I don’t know this poster’s whole history, but I certainly recognize the name. I really don’t think they were trying to yank anybody’s chain. And that is what ‘Trolling’ is, as far as I understand the term. I’d chalk it up to just maybe “Bad Judgement” and move on to a better New Year.

Yeah, I was thinking about starting a thread on that, too. Really stupid piece of modding. I would go so far as to say if anybody got anything from it, it woupd be IvoryTowerDenizen for threadshitting (which I don’t support actually happening). If mentioning that some aspect of the fallout from Covid is suspension level trolling, then there are dozens of us that should be suspended, including the posters in this thread.

Yeah, I…ah…what? How is that even remotely trolling? It is the mildest of mild griping and complaining. In any given month, there are perhaps a hundred comment/posts made by Dopers that are more deserving of discipline than that.
He disguised an anti-mask rant as a Café Society thread supposedly about Dick Clark’s New Year’s Eve show. He knew what he was doing.

That Op, bringing up masks. Finishing up 2020 looked like Trolling 101 to me. No one posting is that clueless. He’s trolling. He was trying to get a rise from people. He succeeded in this case, except as a Mod I could warn or suspend him.

I’m going to have to defend UltraVires on this one. Having a small crowd at Times Square on New Years Eve is a depressing sight. There have been a lot of depressing sights this year. Pointing this out is not part of some anti-quarantine agenda.
I’ve lost several family members to Covid. I have other friends and family members who are currently hospitalized because of it. But I’m not offended by what UltarVires posted.
I just think that UV’s post looked a lot worse after ITD posted their sad news about their mother and that’s not UV’s fault.
