I sponsored umkay well before the banning. I thought the membership would help her navigate the threads more easily with the search function. I stayed anon and she did not know who it was. There was an error on my part in the processing and I realized it right around the time everything went down. I just wanted to go through with my intent. Then less than 24 hours later it all came to light. I was given an unprompted offer of a refund or the option to gift the sponsorship to someone else. I denied it.
And no, it did not suck. I enjoyed it and have spent much more money on less. And I have absolutely nothing else to spend my money on. And to tell you the truth it is not The Dopes fault what I do with my money. The Dope offers no guarantees on a gift sub. I bought it mostly for a selfish reason. To get more out of her and keep her posting. She had loads of cash according to her story.
Did I fall hook line and sinker? Yup. Sure looking back there was a few things I noticed as well. But whatever. I lost nothing and it gave me some drama. She still is as real to me as any story book character or actress. And in the current light quite a complex milti-role character with prequels and a possible sequel.
Was I duped? No, I was not asked to do such a thing. Would I have done it if it was not a helpless sweet talking young thing. Yup, I sent Lute Skywatcher some money as well and have sponsored others in an anon fashion in the past.
I had a tough couple years. Super tough. I made it through and wish to and can share.

This is exactly what I mentioned in the Pit thread. If it was okay for everyone to be skeptical of umkay, then it has to be okay to be skeptical of those who are skeptical. If doing so makes people think poorly of you, that’s on them for being hypocritical.

It means that everyone in that Pit thread up until the introduction of sezyoo was accusing umkay on a hunch - which turned out to be right. Bricker and BigT are just saying that there is a non-zero possibility, however small, that this is all a huge misunderstanding and coincidence and umkay is an actual person. After all, the proof we do have does not exactly stand up to scrutiny in a court of law (not that it needs to, but Bricker is a lawyer). Saying this is similar to saying “Something smells fishy here, I have a feeling umkay is not legit.” - both are forms of scepticism. You might not agree with this, but do you see what it means now?
