The mighty IKE has again put to sea for a week of flight deck requalifiations and carrier quals. We’ll be operating in the western Atlantic in a designated operations area.
A lot’s happened since we returned from the six-month deployment. We enjoyed a 30 day standdown for some much needed R and R, changed commanding officers, hosted the USS Cole memorial ceremony, conducted (and passed) numerous operational tests and had nearly a quarter of the ship’s crew turn over.
Our next couple of underway periods will focus on getting our new folks up to speed on how we operate on Eisenhower. Additionally, we will be assisting the squadrons based in Oceana in maintaining their carrier qualifications.
On a personal note, I’ve been spending every weekend (save the ones in which I’ve been assigned duty) with my son, The Skirm. Great times! I’m looking forward to another leave period over Thanksgiving where I’ll be taking him to a family reunion.
Standing by the sea waving… Return safe to us. Thought you might be here when the USS Cole sailors fly in today. You know that we always need great photo shots. Those guys deserve all of our prayers. As one who can speak of the CheifScott’s family parties… WOO HOO!!! Great fun, great family… Give everyone my love…
