Yes, yes, yes to halvah. kimchee (no meat or fish in mine, either, and I make it from scratch), tonic water, okra, brussels sprouts – all leafy greens in fact, kale, collards, cabbage, spinach, all of them. To that list I’ll add rutabagas, turnips, parsnips, all variety of beans, and I’ll raise the stakes with lumpy hot cereal. Oatmeal, cream of wheat, malt o meal, all delicious in and of themselves, but even better when they’ve got lumps in 'em.
This ought to be a list of my favorite foods. Spam, kimchee…
one more thing,
Poi
Best eaten with two fingers when it’s slightly tart.
Wish I had some now.
Cast me in the black licorice camp. And I am a glutton for licorice all-sorts. My sister is visiting from Hawaii later this month, and I will have to fight her for any licorice all-sorts to be had.
I also like coconut, which I think is one of those foods that you can’t be noncommital about.
I like halvah, too, in small amounts. Also kichel. Goes good with coffee.
The only okra I can stand is the way my sainted grandfather prepared it, rolled in cornmeal and pan-fried in bacon grease.
