Occasionally, I like to immerse myself in the darker areas of the Web. www.christianseparatist.org is such an area. Nothing but bigoted, idiotic, racist, white supremacist, Christian supremacist, closed-minded and downright stupid propaganda for pages and pages. Sometimes, when I don’t think too hard about the implications, I find it amusing. Most of the time, I find it scary.
Today, I found it ridiculous. These people, who are Biblical literalists and believe (among other things) that Jesus was not a Jew, write
I’m not kidding. It’s right here. And I don’t know whether to laugh or lose the last shreds of my hope for humanity.
Priceguy. Please take this into consideration…the term “Christian” is broadly used and abused. Ask a variety of people what they believe what being a “Christian” means, you’ll get a variety of answers to be sure.
“Extremists” in any “religion” are almost always out of line with what the core group believes in certain areas or possibly out of line completely with the core group (thus “extremists” lol!).
I quote you now…“I don’t know whether to laugh or lose the last shreds of my hope for humanity.”
I would suggest that if you are at that point and really feel the need to find true hope for humanity, you do some research and find the “truth” for yourself. (Eww I didn’t mean for that to sound all “Mulder”-ish!)
I think that kind of immersion is not good, unless you are a federal agent looking for stolen explosives or some other work related task. Knowing it is there is more than enough for me.
Your lingering hope for humanity was dashed by a tiny group of Christian loonies? Your faith in the rest of us hung on a mere thread that was a misapprehension that there are NO nutjobs on–of all places–the internet?
That’s more disturbing than the linked site!
There are nutjobs and there are nutjobs. These guys are extreme, but what they display is merely the final conclusion of tendencies I observe in most human beings on a daily basis. People are fucking idiots, and getting it confirmed like this does nothing for my hope in humanity.
I don’t know that there was an actual “point”. I commented about loose use of the term “Christian” by people most would consider “extremists”. Then I suggested you research for yourself “truth” if your hopes in humanity had been truly dashed. If you have a specific question about my post, I’ll gladly try to answer it.
Now to quote you again, PriceGuy, “These guys are extreme, but what they display is merely the final conclusion of tendencies I observe in most human beings on a daily basis.”
My question to you is, do you seriously believe that the “extremists” you discuss in the OP display “the final conclusion of tendencies” you “observe in most human beings on a daily basis”? What kind of people are you around on a daily basis? You should keep better company. You think, I guess from that comment, that “most human beings” lean toward the tendency of extremism? Can I ask why you think that?
