Hey look, it’s another “whose pulling an all-nighter?” thread by Rhythmdvl! Oh boy oh boy oh boy!
A client sent the first draft of a report on Friday night. It’s a great document in spirit, but it’s almost entirely in the passive voice and needs a lot of structure/cohesion (I’m only on page ten and in addition to general corrections, I have about thirty or so comments). They need to send it to the printer by Wednesday afternoon, so they’ll need at least a day to make decisions and incorporate changes, I’ll need a day to review/proof. That means I have to have this back to them by Sunday evening. That means I’m up through the night.
So who else is out there?
Agreed. I will be taking copious amounts of smoke breaks and enjoying some recently purchased music, all whilst watching the olympics. You have to do actual work though.
I’m probably not making you feel much better, am I
Sympathy for you guys. I just finished a task I’d been procrastinating on for no good reason. No all-nighter for me, thank goodness, but I’ve been there before and I’m sure I’ll be there again. I’m jealous that you guys have legitimate reasons to stay up all night. Mine are always caused by my own fuckups.
How bout this, one of you guys watch the olympics, and then send me a text message or give me a call when it’s time for a commercial. That way, I get paid to sleep, and you guys have something fun to do! Don’t you see? Everyone wins!
It’s still early here, so hopefully not an all-nighter for me tonight. But I just wanted to stop by and say hi. I hope you have a pleasant evening despite all the work.
But coping with them can be a great asset. I used to be all about procrastination and whatnot, then either pulled miracles out of my behind or worked like a dog through the night. Now, it helps me get clients. The two that are going to keep me up this week (gender and carbon trading) are both new: they both have sensitive rush projects that couldn’t be handled by their usual contractors, so they asked around for a recommendation–hence they came to us (Mrs. Dvl and I are partners).
Um, SuntanTigerTamer, I haven’t actually seen any of the Olympic coverage. Think you could narrate?
